Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2024 season.
Our highest preseason honor, the 6th annual First Eleven profiles the top players (in the mind of Outside the Huddle) entering the fall.
No. 2: TE/DE Brock Schott, senior, Leo
Anyone see that episode of King of Queens where Doug Heffernan plays against the Pee Wee Football team? Just dominating a bunch of little kids?
That’s how it feels when Schott is on the field – a man amongst boys.
At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, he doesn’t necessarily look like the Incredible Hulk out there, but he sure plays like it.
Schott is almost uncoverable at tight end. He is faster than any linebacker and more physical than any defensive back. He led Leo in receiving yards as a junior with 743 to go with six touchdowns.
On defense, his stats are video game-esque. Schott from the edge accumulated 67 tackles, to go with a team-high 32 tackles for loss. His 19 sacks was among the highest in the state. The combination of quick feet, long arms and tenacity make Schott the most dominant player off the edge in the state.
Headed to Miami (Fla.) after high school, Schott has a bright future on offense or defense at the next level.
COACH’S QUOTE ON BROCK SCHOTT“Brock Schott is one of the most impactful high school football players we’ve seen. As a DE, he has the ability to take over the game and really disrupt opposing offenses. Offensively, he is an outstanding blocker at the line of scrimmage or in space. He also has great hands, great route running ability and great speed for a guy his size. And he plays relentlessly hard on both sides all the time. He is the total package.– Leo coach Jason Doerffler
