No. 7: DB/WR Landin Hoeppner, senior, Leo
Coaches love when they get pure athletes at any level, but particularly high school.
Why? Because no matter where you line them up, they are dynamic enough to make an impact.
That’s Hoeppner.
A season ago, the senior was one of the biggest big-play threats in the area, an attribute that will surely be magnified this fall. He averaged 19.1 yards per cash and scores six touchdowns. He had gains of 35, 39, 43 and 55 yards in four different games, including a pair of big catches in the epic 45-42 win over East Noble in sectionals.
Defensively, Hoeppner picked off four passes (one a pick-six against DeKalb) to go with 43 tackles and a pair of tackles for loss. He is regularly assigned the opposition’s best receiver, and does an exceptional job using his 6-foot frame to screen the receiver away from where the ball is coming from. You can only do that consistent if you can keep up with speedsters, something Hoeppner can do with his 4.49 laser-timed 40.
