After 26 years as a head football coach in northern Indiana, Andy Thomas is calling a career.
Thomas confirmed to Outside the Huddle on Wednesday that the 2025 campaign, his 12th with the Angola Hornets, was his last.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to be the head coach at Angola for the last 12 years,” said Thomas in a release. “I would like to thank Mark Ridenour, Steve Lantz and Travis Heavin for their support of me, my family and out football program.
“Thank you players and coaches for your hard work and dedication. Thank you to the 2025 football team for making this season so incredibly special and one that myself, our school and our community will never forget.”
Thomas has spent time at the helm of three different programs – Garrett from 2000 to 2005, Culver from 2006 to 2013 and Angola from 2014 to 20205. He has won five sectional championships during his career, three of which came with the Hornets, including this past campaign when the team posted upsets of Tippecanoe Valley and West Noble to advance to the sectional finals, then knocked off Garrett for the title before battling Knox hard in a 28-21 loss in regional action.
He also led the 2003 Garrett Railroaders to a regional championship.
The 2017 and 2018 campaigns at Angola were particularly memorable, as the Hornets posted back-to-back undefeated regular seasons. Both resulted in NECC Big Division and sectional titles, with Bishop Dwenger ending the season each year in regional play.
Thomas posted a 68-59 record in 12 years at Angola and has a 158-126 mark in 26 years overall.
