Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2024 season.
Our highest preseason honor, the 6th annual First Eleven profiles the top players (in the mind of Outside the Huddle) entering the fall.
No. 5: OL Caiden Abbs, senior, Carroll
Abbs is a grinder. Lining up at offensive tackle a season ago for the Chargers, his proficiency from the snap of the ball is extraordinary. He has a wide base, he moves backward in control which not getting his upper body off balance as he engages. He can pull as well as anyone in the area, with his 6-foot-3, 285-pound frame a nightmare to see bearing down on you as an opposing defender.
Now in his senior season, Abbs has moved to center to protect quarterback Jimmy Sullivan right up the middle. He could also see some spot duty along the defensive line.
And you may not fight anyone smarter on the field than Abbs, who holds a 4.0 GPA and has football scholarship offers from Ivy League schools such as Dartmouth and Columbia among his dozen offers.
COACH’S QUOTE ON CAIDEN ABBS“Caiden brings physicality to our offensive line. He moved to center this year from tackle. His experience and work ethic elevate our team.”– Carroll coach Doug Dinan
