OTH Assistant Coach Spotlight: Todd Freimuth, Snider, offensive line

Being an assistant coach is a difficult task. The pay is not fantastic, the hours are grueling and there are a lot of long, hot summer days out on the practice field.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to spotlight some of the great assistant coaches we have in our area and share their stories of why they do what they do. Today’s coach truly exemplifies the hard work and dedication it takes to be an assistant coach.

Coach Todd Freimuth loves high school football.  This could be said for many coaches in our area because to do this job, you really do have to love high school football. But I emphasize the word ‘love’ when it comes to Freimuth because this coach truly loves every single moment of it.

Freimuth is a Fort Wayne kid, born and raised. He grew up in the ’05 loving sports. While loving Little League like his father, he found his true love in football. After his youth football days, he found himself at one of the premier high school football programs in the area, Snider.

Freimuth would become an anchor of the Panthers’ offensive line from 2008 through 2010.  He helped lead his team to three sectional championships.

After his time at Snider, Freimuth headed to Bloomington where he became a manager with the IU football program led by Coach Kevin Wilson. That is where he found his love for coaching. With the Hoosiers, Todd learned the ins and outs of what it meant to run a successful football program and he honed the skills and drills that would help him be a valuable asset to any staff.

After graduating from IU, Todd landed his first assistant coaching job as an assistant freshman coach at North Side. During his time at North, he believed he learned important lessons from coaches Ryan Hall, Kevin Merz and Tim Martone.

Freimuth moved up to the varsity coaching ranks under the guidance of North Side coach Mike Brevard. Under Freimuth’s leadership, North Side’s offensive line became a key part of the Legends’ success.

“Getting to coach players like Reggie Telemaque and Aspen Pippert-Board is what kept me going,” said Freimuthg. “These kids were day in and day out hard workers and wanted to be successful.”

After his time with the Legends. Freimuth returned to the practice fields that he knew so well at Snider. He also reunited with his head coach, Russ Isaacs, to coach a new generation of Panther offensive linemen.

“(Isaacs) did so much for me not only as a football player or coach, but as a person,” Freimuth said. “And now to work with him every day is really an amazing thing.”

In his return to the Panthers, Snider continues to have one of the most dominant offensive lines in the area. Many people have noted that when they see the black helmets, one of the first things they think about is dominant the offensive line consistently is.

“It’s truly a great thing to have so many alumni be a part of our staff to help continue the great tradition that we have here,” said current Snider coach Kurt Tippmann.

Todd truly exemplifies what being a high school football coach is all about. Loving what you do and doing it all for the players.
