Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2026 season.

Our highest preseason honor, the 8th annual First Eleven, profiles the top players (in the mind of Outside the Huddle) entering the fall.

No.4: WR Maddox Weil, junior, Northrop

There is fast and then there is Maddox Weil fast.

And then there is playing Maddox Weil fast on the football field rather than just running in a straight line.

Weil lit up defenses a season ago, hauling in 58 receptions for 968 yards and eight touchdowns. With Jerquaden Guilford on the field for Northrop, Weil played a big of second-fiddle to the Ohio State freshman, but that won’t be the case this year. Weil is the alpha on the Bruins’ offense and he can line up anywhere and make an impact.

Weil does everything fast. He has a tremendously-quick first step, he is smooth in and out of his routes and he can beat any defender in acceleration.

The Bruins do a very good job in getting its playmakers in space. Whether it is a wide receiver screen or a go route 40 yards downfield, Weil can create separation from defenders. Once the ball is in his hands, his quickness and field vision make him a mismatch against defenses.

Weil is going to put up monster numbers in 2026, and his college prospects, with offers already from the likes of Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and others, will grow even more.

The fact that he is just a junior means we get two more years of watching Weil show out for Northrop.

COACH’S QUOTE ON MADDOX WEIL

“Maddox is everything you would want in a student-athlete. On the field, he can play any WR spot and is capable of beating you in multiple ways. He runs great routes, has blazing speed and is able to go up and catch just about any ball thrown his way. Whatever college lands him is getting a very special football player and person.”– Northrop coach John Schaefer
