No. 6 in our countdown sees the continuation of Outside the Huddle’s First Eleven, our annual preseason crowning of the top 11 players in northeast Indiana. Our highest preseason honor, this is the second-annual First 11 list.
No. 6: Devon Tippmann, Bishop Dwenger – Senior, RB/LB
Tippmann oozes athleticism and puts it to good use on both sides of the ball for Bishop Dwenger.
On defense, Tippmann is fast from sideline to sideline and is as good as anyone around in blowing through holes around the line of scrimmage and finishing off ball carriers. He is also impressive in how he keeps his body squared up to the line of scrimmage and moves while keeping his eyes up and finishing. He finished 2019 with 106 tackles and 13 TFL.
Offensively, Tippmann is arguably Bishop Dwenger’s most dynamic running back. A season ago he scored 12 touchdowns on the ground to go with 431 yards. He is even a threat out of the backfield as a receiver and can lay down a good block in pass protection.
