No. 7 in our countdown sees the continuation of Outside the Huddle’s First Eleven, our annual preseason crowning of the top 11 players in northeast Indiana. Our highest preseason honor, this is the second-annual First 11 list.
No. 7: Joe Collier, Adams Central – Senior, DE/TE
Big Joe Collier looks like a man, what with the shoulder-length hair and the full beard.
But he also plays like a man on the football field, showcasing superior physicality and strength against opposing offensive linemen and other blocker.
A year ago, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound Collier from his defensive end position amassed 118 tackles, 14.5 TFL, five sacks. He was a terror on the edge, sealing the corner as teams looking to kick plays outside.
As if that isn’t enough, Collier will see action at tight end for the Flying Jets. While not a prolific pass catcher, he can haul in a catch or two while being a great lead blocker on runs.
Collier will have to carry more of the defensive load for AC with a few key losses, including Ben Voirol who manned the other d-end spot, but the buy guy is surely up to the challenge.
COACH’S QUOTE ON JOE COLLIER
“Joe is definitely an impact player on both sides of the ball – more so defensively but he will be a blocking for us for sure. Really how he goes is how this team will go. We need him to have a big year!” – Adams Central coach Michael Mosser
