No. 10 in our countdown sees the continuation of Outside the Huddle’s First Eleven, our annual preseason crowning of the top 11 players in northeast Indiana. Our highest preseason honor, this is the second-annual First 11 list.
No. 10: James Arnold, South Adams – Senior, QB
Arnold’s junior season was nothing short of spectacular, throwing for 3,168 yards and 43 touchdowns against just six interceptions.
The unquestioned offensive leader for the Starfires, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior can make all the throws, from short timing routes to airing it out downfield over the top of a defense.
But what makes Arnold a step above the majority of QBs in the area is the lesser-seen strengths of his game. His preparation is second to none, the work ethic is unmatched and while he is as approachable as they come, he is as competitive of a high school player you will ever meet.
The sky is the limit for Arnold in 2020. A vast amount of weaponry surrounds him in the South Adams offense. He already holds the majority of the passing records at the school, he will just add to those numbers this season.
COACH’S QUOTE ON JAMES ARNOLD
“James is the definition of a coach on the field. You can talk all you want about his arm strength and accuracy, but it’s the intangibles that make him truly great. His work ethic, character, competitiveness and leadership go unmatched when it comes to 17-18 year old kids.” – South Adams coach Grant Moser
