Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2026 season.
Our highest preseason honor, the 8th annual First Eleven, profiles the top players (in the mind of Outside the Huddle) entering the fall.
No. 5: Edge Ifeanyi Emedobi, senior, Northrop
It is still amazing that Emedobi has reached the heights he has despite not playing football until a year ago.
That’s right. One of the top players in the area, and one of the most coveted edge players in the country in the Class of 2027, played his first year of competitive football in 2025 as a junior for the Bruins.
At almost 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, Emedobi’s potential is through the roof at the high-FBS level. A commit to the University of Michigan, his future as an impact player on the edge in the Big Ten is bright.
But first, he has a final year of high school, also known as Year 2 of his football career. Emedobi is far from a polished product, but his raw skill and measurables are enough to wreak havoc on opposing offenses. He is incredibly quick with good hands, able to shed off blocks he can’t outright.
As a junior, Emedobi was second on the Bruins in tackles for loss with 21 and led the defensive unit with 6.5 sacks to go with 59 tackles and a pair of forced fumbles.
Emedobi may be short on experience, but he has talent and ability in bunches.
COACH’S QUOTE ON IFEANYI EMEDOBI
“Ife has shown so much growth in a ton of different ways over the last 10 months. He has dedicated himself to the weight room, in being a leader and has embraced learning so much about the game of football. Like a sponge, he just absorbs information and coaching and is able to apply it right away. We are so excited to see his leap from last year. This is still only the beginning of his long football journey.”– Northrop coach John Schaefer
