Kyle Bond to be the next girls basketball coach at Northrop

Kyle Bond is the new head coach for Northrop girls basketball

Multiple sources have indicated to Outside the Huddle that Kyle Bond will be the new girls varsity basketball coach at Northrop High School. The change is already listed on the official IHSAA Directory for the school.

The move is expected to pending approval from the school board. The next Fort Wayne Community Schools board meeting is scheduled for April 27.

Bond spent his first head coaching season last year at Bishop Dwenger with the Saints girls team. Dwenger went 9-14 on the season with keys wins over Bishop Luers, Garrett and DeKalb.

Prior to taking over at Bishop Dwenger, Bond spent several years on the benches of boys programs at both Northrop and North Side. His return to the Bruins, now on the girls side, comes after a successful stint on their boys bench under both current coach Shane Merryman and former coach Rod Chamble. Bond has spent time as an Administrative Assistant for Fort Wayne Community Schools.

Northrop is coming off an 11-11 season, the final under coach Katie Jackson after her five seasons leading the program. The Bruins have been at .500 or better in 9 of their past 10 seasons. Northrop does not have a Sectional game win since 2022 when they reached the finals. Their last Sectional title was in 2009, though the program was just 9-15 that season.

Bond will be Northrop’s 9th different girls basketball coach in the past 25 years. Prior to Jackson, the program spent one season in the hands of Kevin Clopton after four straight winning seasons under Rashida Muhammad from 2016-2020.

The Bruins graduate a massive senior class, including their top 7 scorers from last season. Senior-to-be Kamiah Morris played in all 22 games, averaging 3 points over just under 15 minutes per contest and is slated to be the top returning player. Classmate Saniyah Kimbrough is also expected back after seeing action in 18 games.
