Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2025 season.
Our highest preseason honor, the 7th annual First Eleven profiles the top players (in the mind of Outside the Huddle) entering the fall.
No. 2: DE Jaidon Van Pelt, senior, Carroll
The only thing worse than an absolute monster on the football field is an absolute monster with smarts.
That’s Jarron Taylor, who mans the defensive front for Bishop Luers with brother Ayle.
With college offers from the likes of Air Force and Army, as well as Ivy League schools Colgate and Cornell, it is easy to see why the above description fits. Taylor led the Knights in tackles (97) last season and was second to his brother in tackles for loss (18) and sacks (eight).
Overall, Taylor is sitting on 11 offers from Division I schools who covet his freakish athletic ability at 6-foot-2 and 265 pounds. He can line up in the interior or move outside. Either way, he is quick off the ball and has relentless drive in his lower body to blow up blocks. He is like a heat-seeking missile out of his stance, searching for a ball carrier to destroy. On film, he shows the drive that makes him so good, tossing aside blocker after blocker as he tracks the play.
In the classroom, Taylor sports a 3.96 GPA.
COACH’S QUOTE ON JARRON TAYLOR: “Jarron is everything you look for in a senior campaign. He leads from the front in all aspects of his life. His consistent work ethic has helped him excel in the classroom and on the football field. His humility amidst a surge of scholarship offers and post-season awards is to be emulated. From his ability to stop the run through great technique and power to rushing the passer, he truly is one of the best defensive tackles we have had in a number of years. We’re excited to see the best of Jarron this season.”– Bishop Luers coach Kyle Lindsay
