PREP FOOTBALL: Blitz’s Picks, Week 7

With three weeks left to go in the regular season, teams are in a variety of spots.

Some are trying to secure a league title.

Others are looking for some direction.

And with each passing week, more and more are beginning to prepare for the playoffs.

But Blitz? All his focus is on this Friday’s action.

Last week: 15-5 (.750)

Overall: 107-28 (.792)

CARROLL AT HOMESTEAD. The story of this rivalry over the last few years has been Homestead’s inability to slow down the Carroll offense. The Chargers have scored 93 combined points over the last two seasons, and with Carroll leading the SAC in scoring average, that doesn’t bode well for Sparty. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 13.

BISHOP LUERS AT BISHOP DWENGER. It’s amazing how much a pair of Catholic schools could loathe each other so much, yet here we are. Three straight games in this series have been decided by five points or less. This could be another grind of a game in the rivalry. This one comes down to if Bishop Dwenger can avoid turnovers and limit Daryea Williams on the ground. If the Knights can dictate the game on the ground, that’s a problem for the Saints. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 3.

SNIDER AT NORTHROP. The streak is now at 27 – the consecutive wins by Snider over “rival” Northrop. The last time this game was decided by less than 20 points was in 2017. BLITZ SAYS SNIDER BY 23.

SOUTH SIDE AT NORTH SIDE. Blitz has a soft spot for the Totem Pole Game. Despite years and decades of change within prep football and these respective schools, it’s enlightening that the rivals still battle for the traveling trophy, with green arrow links for South’s wins and red tomahawk links for North’s victories. The Legends have won six straight in the series. Make it seven. BLITZ SAYS NORTH SIDE BY 12.

WAYNE AT CONCORDIA LUTHERAN. There are four rivalry games in the SAC and then one leftover game. Concordia and Wayne have no natural rival, so they play each other in Week 7 every season. Wayne has come close to some big wins this year, putting a scare into both Bishop Luers and Carroll. BLITZ SAYS WAYNE BY 14.

BELLMONT AT NEW HAVEN. Battle of winless squads, with Bellmont riding a 28-game losing skid. The Bulldogs looked like a beaten squad last week at Columbia City. This is a team that has fought hard and come close to winning on three different occasions this year. They finally break through in a big way this week. BLITZ SAYS NEW HAVEN BY 32.

COLUMBIA CITY AT EAST NOBLE. The Eagles enter this game rushing for 324 yards per game. East Noble was able to stymie Leo’s rushing attack in a Week 5 win. What gives this week? Can Grayson Bradberry be a hero for CC behind center? Will East Noble lean on another huge night from Dylan Krehl? So much to like in this matchup of NE8 powers. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 3.

DEKALB AT NORWELL. After a strong start to the season, the DeKalb offense has hit a wall, posting just 14 points combined over the past three weeks. This feels like a return to form kind of week for Caiden Hinkle and the Barons. BLITZ SAYS DEKALB BY 20.

HUNTINGTON NORTH AT LEO. The Vikings are improved. Improved enough to go on the road and give Leo a game? Not yet. BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 21.

HERITAGE AT BLUFFTON. Similar to Columbia City, we have had to wait this long to find out just how good undefeated Bluffton is. Its first league test is against the Patriots, who are 3-0 on the road this year. How does Tigers sophomore Axton Beste perform when the pressure is on a bit more? BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 5.

SOUTH ADAMS AT JAY COUNTY. Coach Grant Moser’s team put up quite a fight against rival Adams Central last week. The Starfires wore down in Week 6. They won’t this week in a much more favorable matchup. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 11.

SOUTHERN WELLS AT ADAMS CENTRAL. In 2011, Southern Wells beat Adams Central 30-18. Bet that was fun. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 48.

WOODLAN AT PRAIRIE HEIGHTS. Who has attempted the fewest passes in the area? Woodlan has to be up there, having thrown 26 times over six games. It’s not an explosive offense, but it should be enough on the road at Heights. BLITZ SAYS WOODLAN BY 6.

CENTRAL NOBLE AT CHURUBUSCO. Alright, Blitz apologizes to Churubusco for doubting the Eagles. Truce? We good, ‘Busco Barstool? BLITZ SAYS CHURUBUSCO BY 21.

FREMONT AT EASTSIDE. When we thought top running backs at Eastside at the beginning of the season, we thought about Linkin Carter, not Noah Dove. Yet the freshman leads the Blazers in attempts (62), yards (364) and touchdowns (six) on the ground. He should have some running room against the Eagles. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 13.

WEST NOBLE AT LAKELAND. Can the Chargers bounce back after falling hard at home to Garrett last week? Lakeland’s offense isn’t the easiest to slow down. Blitz feels like Coach Monte Mawhorter’s team is up for it. West Noble hasn’t lost consecutive games in a season since 2021. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 8.

GARRETT AT FAIRFIELD. The further we get into the season, the more absurd Fairfield’s win over Culver Academy in Week 4 truly was. It remains Culver’s only loss. The Falcons have scored 103 points in two games, and eight points in their four other games. Garrett’s defense will be on its game again on the road, like it was last week at West Noble. BLITZ SAYS GARRETT BY 21.

MISHAWAKA AT WARSAW. Two losses in two weeks has Warsaw back in the middle of the Northern Lakes Conference standings. Mishawaka is a dangerous foe whose only loss so far this year came to Class 5A No. 1 Concord. That’s worrisome, but Blitz feels Warsaw bounces back with a big dub. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 1.

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT VANLUE (OH). Last October, Blackhawk Christian got its first victory as an IHSAA-sanctioned 11-man football program over Vanlue. Can it get win No. 2 over the same team? Why not. BLITZ SAYS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN BY 7.
