BLITZ’S PICKS: Week 9

Every coach in the state of Indiana is hoping that Week 9 sees the most complete game of the year out of their team. The goal is always to peak at the right time – entering the postseason.

Blitz is already there, missing just one game in Week 8. The hope is that streak can continue.

The only thing more important than a team playing its best when it counts is a bear that picks which teams are going to win is at his best when it counts.

Last week: 19-1 (.950)

Overall: 144-33 (.813)

BISHOP DWENGER AT CONCORDIA LUTHERAN. The last winless regular season for the Cadets came back in 2010. With a loss on Friday, Concordia will move to 0-9. The Saints need some positive mojo with consecutive losses and Wayne looming next week. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 28.

BISHOP LUERS AT HOMESTEAD. Can the Knights prove they are “deserving” of the SAC championship? A win earns them the Victory Bell outright. Brett Fuchs ran roughshod over Concordia last week and it could be his legs that are the key in this one. Winning the battle in the trenches will be pivotal. Does Kohen McKenzie have some more pinpoint throws to sling before the playoffs begin? BLITZ SAYS HOMESTEAD BY 3.

NORTH SIDE AT CARROLL. There has been a lot going on behind the scenes at North Side, now it has to travel to Huntertown to take on the Chargers. Can the Legends shake off the distractions and challenge Carroll? The Chargers have a new video board in place. That’s fun. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 22.

WAYNE AT SNIDER. This one is flying a bit under the radar, which is curious considering how well the Generals played Carroll a few weeks ago. Wayne has actually been a factor with its defense. Are the Generals up for the challenge of a physical Snider front line? BLITZ SAYS SNIDER BY 11.

BELLMONT AT EAST NOBLE. After impressive back-to-back wins and a rematch at New Haven next week, the Knights get a reprieve of sorts with the winless Braves. One thing Bellmont is not is a pushover in the trenches, so East Noble better be ready. That won’t be a problem. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 31.

LEO AT DEKALB. The Lions have emerged as the most complete team in the NE8 in Blitz’s mind. DeKalb can be pesky, but Leo should coast. BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 23.

HUNTINGTON NORTH AT NEW HAVEN. The Bulldogs must regroup quickly from last week, especially with a rematch coming with East Noble in Week 10. Huntington North’s spread attack falls perfectly in line with what New Haven is best at defensively. This one shouldn’t be close. BLITZ SAYS NEW HAVEN BY 30.

NORWELL AT COLUMBIA CITY. The Eagles need a dub in the worst way, having been beaten three straight weeks by a combined score of 107-14. Norwell, despite a win last week, is a good remedy. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 18.

BLUFFTON AT LAKELAND. This is a big one for both teams. Bluffton is on a two-game losing streak and Lakeland is still sour from a Week 7 defeat to West Noble in OT. Both have really good teams awaiting them next week to open the postseason. Lakeland hasn’t faced a defense as physical as Bluffton, and the Tigers are angry after the last two weeks. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 6.

HERITAGE AT JAY COUNTY. Outside of Adams Central, Heritage has been able to move the ball and score points on everybody. While Jay County is respectable, Blitz doesn’t think they can get enough stops to stay in this one. BLITZ SAYS HERITAGE BY 18.

SOUTHERN WELLS AT SOUTH ADAMS. Even with the precipitation expected on Friday, the Starfires should have no problem moving the ball on the turf in Berne. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 40.

WOODLAN AT ADAMS CENTRAL. A turbulent week for Woodlan that gets no easier with the Flying Jets on tap and no head coach. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 42.

ANGOLA AT EASTSIDE. Linkin Carter is approaching 1,000 yards rushing to go with 12 touchdowns on the ground for the Blazers. He should add to those numbers against the Hornets. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 16.

CHURUBUSCO AT FAIRFIELD. The Eagles have had issues with teams that have good ground games. Fairfield is averaging over 209 yards rushing per game. Not a good sign. BLITZ SAYS FAIRFIELD BY 14.

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT FREMONT. It has been a tough Year 1 for the Braves in their first year of 11-man IHSAA football. BLITZ SAYS FREMONT BY 27.

GARRETT AT CENTRAL NOBLE. THere are times where it seems like the youthful Railroaders play better on the road than at home. This one could be low scoring in the rain. Defense always wins…most of the time. BLITZ SAYS GARRETT BY 5.

PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT WEST NOBLE. Final tune-up for the Chargers before the playoffs begin, and a quest for the first sectional title in program history. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 41.

NORTHRIDGE AT WARSAW. The winner of this showdown will clinch at least a share of the Northern Lakes Conference title. Northridge is 3-0 in games decided by seven points or less. Warsaw is 4-0 in such games. If it’s close, what gives? BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 2.
