Recently, we unveiled our plan to name area programs’ top five players of the 21st century, which sits at 25 seasons in both football and basketball.
Reminder, this is based on high school career performance ONLY. This is by no means a definitive list and, if anything, is encouraging debate on potential omissions to this list.
Through exhaustive research, reaching out to former coaches and players and our own personal opinion, here is the OTH Quarter Century Team for Snider girls basketball.
Note: The list is in alphabetical order
Liza Clemons
At Elmhurst, she developed into one of the area’s most dominant high school rebounders and shot-blockers and she brought that to a higher level as a senior when Elmhurst closed and Clemons moved to Snider. Her senior year, she averaged 15 points, 11.8 rebounds, 5.7 blocks per game, earning First Team IBCA All-State, and an Indiana All-Star nod. She scored 1,488 career points in high school between Elmhurst and Snider, which is still the 22nd best girls scoring career in Allen County. Clemons went on to play at Purdue University.
Jordyn Poole
In her senior season she averaged 16.9 points, 4.4 assists, and nearly 2.5 steals per game, while shooting roughly 44% and was a Miss Basketball Finalist as an Indiana All-Star. Over her high school career she racked up 1,368 points, 364 assists, and 221 steals, helping her team to a 76-20 record, three sectional titles, and a regional championship. Poole’s first big big push began as a sophomore, where she averaged 12.7 points, 4.4 assists and 2 steals per game; as a junior, Poole averaged 16.7 points, four assists, 3.5 steals and 3.6 rebounds per contest. She finished her career with 1,368 points. After graduation, she committed to Purdue University.
Akilah Sims
Sims was a dominant forward for Snider, graduating in 2012, where she put up roughly 23.0 points and 12.2 rebounds per game as a senior — enough to earn All-State honors (IBCA First Team, AP Second Team), the Tiffany Gooden Award for the best player in the SAC, and was an Indiana All-Star. As a junior, Sims was one of the area’s standouts as well, averaging 15.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. She continued her career at IUPUI, where over four years she totaled 1,389 career points (5th all-time for Snider girls basketball), and later returned to coach the Panthers.
Kaylee Walters
When she graduated in 2010, Walters had amassed 1,370 career points; that ranks today as the 6th most in Snider girls hoops history. During her senior year, Walters averaged 11 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3 steals per game when she became just the 3rd Panther girl to every surpass 1,000 career points. Walters’ junior season saw her average career bests with 14.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.9 steals per game as a unanimous All-Conference pick.
Deja Wimby
Wimby was a star point guard at Snider, and during her senior season (2014-15) she averaged 26 points, 8.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists — putting up huge scoring games (including 40-plus in the SAC Tournament). Her senior year helped Wimby finish with 1,875 career points which ranks 2nd all-time in Panthers history and, today, stands as the 9th most points scored by girls basketball player in Allen County. As a junior, Wimby averaged 22.7 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals per game as an All-Area player. She went on to play college basketball at Western Michigan University.
