As we eagerly count down to the start of high school basketball in Indiana, Bounce will be back with his 4th annual player Top 50 rankings.
Beginning this week, OTH will allow Bounce to count down the top 50 players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2022-2023 campaign, at least based on my expert opinion. The boys will get their turn too, starting November 8.
Inspired by similar player rankings seen on national websites, Bounce has spent countless hours over the summer and fall compiling his list of the Top 50 individuals in the area, first for the girls and then for the boys. It has been a difficult task, and is by no means the “end all” in this particular conversation.
The list has been in construction using a variety of factors – player stats, expectations in 2022-23 and insight from numerous coaches and other experts. In the end, Bounce was solely responsible for how and where players were ranked, and alone deserves all the praise (and criticism) as my “eye test” was the biggest factor of them all.
Bounce does things a little bit different than football was done. These 50 players will be only be players who have established varsity experience. No players up from a primary JV role…no freshmen. Also, don’t expect summer or fall ball to make a big difference here. These lists are primarily made up based off of previous high school varsity play.
These rankings won’t make everyone happy. That much should go without saying. But OTH and Bounce have worked hard to make sure they are as true as possible. And in the end, Bounce trusts his eye and ability to be subjective and fair. So have fun with the list, enjoy it and, best of all, let us celebrate that Outside the Huddle is helping kick off basketball season with a unique feature such as this.
Each day we will rank five more players on the list culminating with the one a day naming of our fifth annual ‘First Five,’ the highest individual preseason honor named by Outside the Huddle.
