So it has been a minute, which means Bounce needs to pick some boys regular season basketball games. This is the final week of the boys regular season so who are some favorites to go into the postseason with some momentum?
*Unlike Blitz, we aren’t picking spreads here…just winners
2021-22 RECORD: 151-59
Bellmont at Bishop Dwenger, Tuesday
The Saints are one of the most under appreciated teams in the area. In the last 10 days, they have beaten Lawrence Central and New Haven and just barely got edged by Leo. Beau Jacquay is one of the breakout performers of the year and Owen Shively just had one of the best games of his career; fair to say this team is trending up. BOUNCE PICKS BISHOP DWENGER
East Noble at Angola, Tuesday
Two teams that could draw a lot of postseason momentum with a good week. This could be a really underrated game not he landscape of the last week of the regular season. BOUNCE PICKS EAST NOBLE
Leo at Blackhawk Christian, Tuesday
Potentially one of the best games of the season. The Braves have the horses to battle with Caedmon Bontrager and DJ Allen inside and that is a big start against Leo. Expect this to be the best game of the week and will really come down to scoring depth. Blackhawk has it, Leo has it, so who has it best? BOUNCE PICKS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN
Huntington North at Carroll, Tuesday
I read last week on Twitter that Carroll may be the best one-win team ever. Agreed. Chargers give this one a battle. BOUNCE PICKS HUNTINGTON NORTH
Westview at Fremont, Tuesday
As far as the NECC goes, we’ve all been infatuated with the top two teams, but this game with two preseason contenders could be intense. I am not real sure what to make of Westview, who have lost 7 of their last 8. They have big time scorers, but on a losing streak is not the way you want to enter Fremont’s home court. BOUNCE PICKS FREMONT
North Side at Eastside, Wednesday
NECC champs versus a presumably shorthanded North Side? That could spell trouble for the Legends. The record setting pace continues. BOUNCE PICKS EASTSIDE
Blackhawk Christian at Northrop, Thursday
The Braves don’t make their week easy with a second big one here. This depends to me, I don’t know that the Braves can get both of them this week so I am going to give Jalen Jackson the benefit here. He has a great game. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHROP
Wayne at Canterbury, Thursday
When we talk about underrated teams and players, both of these squads come to mind so add this to the list of underrated games this week. Canterbury’s intensity and size could go a long way and they should be praised for their program’s growth this season. But here, I think Wayne has too much drive to be stopped. BOUNCE PICKS WAYNE
New Haven at South Side, Thursday
Imagine the pace we could see in this one. South just scored 91 against Snider and the Bulldogs have been in the 80s a ton this season. Jakar Williams has been one of the area’s best players down the stretch of the season, putting up ridiculous numbers but the Bulldogs have just hovered around .500 while South has had more success. BOUNCE PICKS SOUTH SIDE
Central Noble at Fairfield, Friday
Can you guess the theme of the week? It is underrated teams. Central Noble has apparently figured some things out after that loss to South, so their momentum isn’t in question. But where is the praise for Fairfield? First year head coach Derek Hinen has taken the Falcons to more wins than their last two seasons combined. And here. we get to see, for the first time, a scoring battle between Caleb Wright and Connor Essegian; I really like that. BOUNCE PICKS CENTRAL NOBLE
Norwell at Homestead, Friday
You can never hate a season ending clash between the SAC and NE8 champs. The last time this happened, Norwell was arguably the best team in the area in 2020 but lost this game convincingly to a Homestead team that was second best. Are fortunes reversed here? Homestead is the best team and Norwell could be second best. Time to gamble and make some Spartan enemies…BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL
Warsaw at Carroll, Friday
The Tigers need momentum and are going to push this one. Like I said before, I do like what Carroll has but the two or three best players on the court will be wearing Warsaw uniforms. BOUNCE PICKS WARSAW
Woodlan at Leo, Friday
Is Woodlan a thorn in Leo’s side or a motivator? They have met in the last game before Sectionals for six seasons and Woodlan has won only once: last season. While that Joe Reidy buzzer beater made us initially question the Lions for the postseason, they didn’t lose again until the state title game. This one is fun, maybe even close. BOUNCE PICKS LEO
