BLITZ: Area semistate picks

We are one step away from Lucas Oil Stadium and state championship weekend.

How many area teams will be competing for titles next week? Let’s find out as Blitz gives his picks.

Last week: 4-1 (.800)

Overall: 171-51 (.772)

ANDREAN AT EASTSIDE. The Blazers found a way to win again last week on the strength of a defensive scheme that was spot on (again) and an offense led by Laban Davis that found enough points to be victorious. Now, traditional power Andrean is all that stands between Eastside and a first-ever state title game appearance.

But this may be the biggest challenge of the season for the men up front for Eastside. Between five-star Notre Dame commit Drayk Bowen, 6-foot-5 edge rusher Jaden Marsh and a host of others, the Fighting 59ers sport the best defensive front-7 that Coach Todd Mason’s team has faced all year long.

Eastside’s linemen have risen to every challenge presented to them, notably the last two weeks against Bishop Luers and Eastbrook. Can they find a way a third time to be the difference makers in the trenches?

Blitz will be in attendance in Butler tonight and will face the wrath of this pick, but think about it Blazers, do you really want the kiss of death that is this fuzzy bear picking you at this point?

BLITZ SAYS ANDREAN BY 3.

ADAMS CENTRAL AT NORTH JUDSON. Blitz has been warned not to overlook North Judson. After all, all three of their losses came to teams in a higher class. But none of that trio – Tippecanoe Valley, Culver Academy and Pioneer – won a sectional title, so how good were they really?

On paper, this one looks like a complete mismatch. The Flying Jets are bigger, quicker and more dominant on both sides of the football than the Bluejays.

North Judson is going to attempt to bottle up AC inside and keep the Flying Jets from getting the edge and turning outside plays into big gains. The front seven of the Bluejays, particularly the linebackers, are solid players who finish tackles well.

But there is just too much in Adams Central’s favor here. In the end, North Judson looks the part of the latest in a long line of victims that the Flying Jets have mauled on their way to a state title game appearance.

BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 20.
