OTH FIRST ELEVEN 2021: No. 2 Jeff Becker

Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2021 season.

Our highest preseason honor, the third-annual First Eleven profiles the top players (in the mind of OTH) entering this fall.

No. 2: QB Jeff Becker, senior, Carroll

After throwing for over 4,500 yards and 53 touchdowns over the last two years, SAC foes are eager to see Becker move on to South Dakota St. next season.

But first, Carroll gets to unleash its dual-threat monster one last time.

Becker is equal parts stout, athletic quarterback and highly apt when it comes to the mental side of the game. Carroll trusts Becker with its offense, to the point that he has the clearance to check into audibles at the line of scrimmage based on what he sees.

After the snap, Becker has a quick release and can make throws in the pocket and on the run. He is a threat to take off at any time, evidenced by his nearly 600 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns on the ground a year ago.

While Becker has had some weapons around him in recent years, the prolific offense of the Chargers happens because of their now-senior quarterback. There is no throw he cannot make, and his ascension to the top as the best signal caller in the area has been fun to watch.

COACH’S QUOTE ON JEFF BECKER

“Jeff is a tremendous football player and we have all the confidence in the world in him and his abilities. He can really direct the offense and does everything we ask of him to do.” – Carroll coach Doug Dinan
