Bounce’s Picks for the week of February 1

We are now strictly into the boys side with this weekly column. There may be some more girls picks along the way, but every Monday is just now for the fellas.

My competently invisible traveling trophies stayed put and the Carroll girls’ three conference wins means they will keep the girls trophy heading into next season. Homestead pushed back Northrop on the boys side on Friday night to retain theirs.

Here are my picks for the week.

LAST WEEK: 11-7

2020-21 RECORD: 136-53

BOYS

DEKALB AT NORTH SIDE, MONDAY

Can Cole Richmond keep up his hot streak? He will need to have someone flourish next to him to get by an athletic North Side team. The Legends are playing their best basketball IN YEARS. That may not be saying a ton, but it is huge for this season’s squad. BOUNCE PICKS NORTH SIDE

LAKEWOOD PARK AT HERITAGE, TUESDAY

Good news for Lakewood Park in the return of Aiden Fetters, who has missed a lot of time this season. He immediately made an impact last week. Will his defense help slow down the three point shooting of Heritage? Last week Nyles Knapke tied the team three point record again. BOUNCE PICKS HERITAGE

NORWELL AT SOUTH ADAMS, TUESDAY

This has developed into an interesting game with Norwell’s emergence lately and something about the idea of Nick Miller versus Brody Bolyn inside makes me happy. Guess there is a little football fan in me. BOUNCE PICKS SOUTH ADAMS

ANGOLA AT CONCORDIA LUTHERAN, THURSDAY

Here come a hot shooting Hornets team against an always dangerous three point shooting team in the Cadets. Who can outshoot? Who can stay hot? BOUNCE PICKS ANGOLA

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT SOUTH SIDE, THURSDAY

The Braves are notoriously difficult to beat if you are a SAC team not named Homestead. The same is likely here but keep this in mind: South Side just dispatched a Bishop Dwenger team that actually gave Blackhawk Christian some problems. Does it mean anything? Probably not in the end. BOUNCE PICKS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN

LEO AT DEKALB, THURSDAY

Another big game for the Barons this week and if anyone is going to have any hope in the NE8 of sharing a title, DeKalb has to slow Leo. Connor Penrod versus either of Leo’s two posts is intriguing and a great interior matchup. Problem for DeKalb is, Leo does have TWO quality posts and Penrod is only ONE person. BOUNCE PICKS LEO

WESTVIEW AT WEST NOBLE, THURSDAY

There aren’t many hurdles left in Westview’s pursuit of a NECC title. This is one of the more substantial ones. Like Eastside last Friday, West Noble can alter tempos and hit big shots. Westview is going to have to defend at a really high level on Austin Cripe and I’m putting them on upset watch here. But will there actually be an upset? BOUNCE PICKS WESTVIEW

CARROLL AT LEO, SATURDAY

Leo was the beast of the SAC, even though they aren’t in it. That mystic took a hit last week while Carroll’s mystic only grew with a massive comeback win over Snider. The Chargers are never done and nobody can get too confident against them. BOUNCE PICKS CARROLL

BISHOP LUERS AT NORTHROP, SATURDAY

Two teams that desperately want a win in conference. This should be a fun paced game with two teams that can really go, led by the engines of Naylon Thompson and Khamani Smith. I expect this to be a truly back and forth affair that comes down to the final minutes. BOUNCE PICKS BISHOP LUERS

NORTH SIDE AT LIGHTHOUSE CPA, SATURDAY

Let’s not throw any chairs, ok? Don’t know what I mean? Use your Twitter search. BOUNCE PICKS NORTH SIDE

JAY COUNTY AT WOODLAN, SATURDAY

The Patriots have gotten by one big ACAC challenge last week but Woodlan marks the first of three straight tough ones if they want to win this conference. Woodlan has had an up and down year and has had issues closing out games. Upset pick of the week here…they close this one out. BOUNCE PICKS WOODLAN
