BLITZ’S PICKS FOR WEEK 10

It has been a rough few days in finding out some of the better teams in area sectionals have had to bow out of the playoffs before they even begin.

Thankfully, no northeast Indiana team has had to pull out, and Blitz prays that that luck will hold over the next six weeks.

While 6A and 5A take a rest this week, most of our 1A through 4A teams in the area are in action.

Who does Blitz have advancing? Let’s take a look.

Last week: 16-2 (.888)

Overall: 137-34 (.801)

COLUMBIA CITY AT EAST NOBLE. A rematch from a 27-10 East Noble victory in Week 7 that was closer than the final score indicated. Both teams will change some things from what they did they first time around, but the key here is Columbia City’s passing game. Can it hit on some big plays and put East Noble on its heels? Blitz feels like the Eagles will get a few, but not enough. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 6.

ANGOLA AT DEKALB. These two teams met way back in Week 1, which resulted in both teams being quarantined after a positive Covid case. Hopefully, we can focus on the on-field product this time around. Tucker Hasselman has another big night as Angola rolls. BLITZ SAYS ANGOLA BY 22.

LEO AT NORTHRIDGE. Oh how Blitz wishes this game was at Leo instead of way off in Middlebury. We could look back in a few weeks and point to this game as the sectional championship. Both have very good defenses and effective running games. Which squad makes a key mistake or two? BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 4.

NEW HAVEN AT SOUTH SIDE. This one has Blitz thinking South Side over Leo back in 2016. Both teams should be able to put up points, but Jakar Williams may be the unstoppable force on the night. He is the difference in this one. BLITZ SAYS NEW HAVEN BY 10.

HUNTINGTON NORTH AT WAYNE. Can Huntington North limit the big plays from the Generals? That is really what this one comes down to. In Blitz’s opinion, no, the Vikings cannot. BLITZ SAYS WAYNE BY 3.

JAY COUNTY AT DELTA. This one…will not be close. BLITZ SAYS DELTA BY 41.

LAKELAND AT MISHAWAKA MARIAN. This one…will not be close either. BLITZ SAYS MISHAWAKA MARIAN BY 40.

JIMTOWN AT GARRETT. Keep an eye on this one after Garrett picked up some much-needed positive vibes with a victory over Central Noble last week. Jimtown is the superior team, but some mistakes here and there could keep this one close into the second half. BLITZ SAYS JIMTOWN BY 14.

JOHN GLENN AT WEST NOBLE. At the very least, the Chargers avoided going winless one year after being undefeated in the regular season. John Glenn holds the edge here. I mean, he was the American to orbit the Earth. BLITZ SAYS JOHN GLENN BY 20.

OAK HILL AT BELLMONT. Coach Bud Ozmun’s Golden Eagles are a dangerous team for the likes of Concordia and Norwell in Sectional 27. Bellmont, however, will not pose an issue. BLITZ SAYS OAK HILL BY 32.

HERITAGE AT NORWELL. Great to see Coach Casey Kolkman’s team back on the field on a Friday night after being out a few weeks due to quarantine. Unfortunately, the return sees the Pats going to Norwell, a team that beat Heritage 35-7 in Week 2. BLITZ SAYS NORWELL BY 28.

WOODLAN AT PRAIRIE HEIGHTS. One win combined between the two? Hey, sometimes the postseason is an opportunity to get wins even in a down year. Blitz likes the Warriors here, and in convincing fashion. BLITZ SAYS WOODLAN BY 13.

EASTSIDE AT BLUFFTON. A battle of 8-1 teams looks and sounds sexy, but will it be a close fight? Blitz knows that Bluffton wants to prove that it deserves some respect in Class 2A. Well, this is the way to do it, having an opportunity to knock off a team capable of a deep postseason run. In the end, there is just too much of Laban Davis, Wade Miller and others for the Tigers. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 14.

WHITKO AT BISHOP LUERS. Blitz was impressed with the Bishop Luers offense last week against Snider. It is definitely a team that has improved over the course of the season even with a wealth of youth. The Knights advance here, setting up a fascinating Round 2 matchup with Fairfield next week. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP LUERS BY 16.

CENTRAL NOBLE AT FAIRFIELD. Last year, Fairfield played for a sectional title and got shut out by Eastside. Can the undefeated Falcons write a different script for 2020? It begins here. BLITZ SAYS FAIRFIELD BY 12.

UNION CITY AT SOUTH ADAMS. The only real question in this one is how long James Arnold plays in a blowout, and then how many plays it takes Aidan Wanner to score when he comes in as Arnold’s replacement. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 33.

CHURUBUSCO AT TRITON. These are two young teams – with one starting a sophomore at QB and the other a freshman. Perhaps Blitz is a homer, but he likes the youngsters of ‘Busco more in this one. BLITZ SAYS CHURUBUSCO BY 5.

ADAMS CENTRAL AT FREMONT. Coach Michael Mosser will guard against complacency in this one, but this one is pretty lopsided. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 31.
