Bounce’s Picks for the Week of Nov. 18

Well, your old amphibian pal is still batting .666 on picking games this year, but there have been some surprise teams which has led to surprise outcomes. So here we go, already into the third week of girls basketball action and here are picks of 10 of my favorite games this coming week.

Homestead retains the Bounce Traveling Trophy with their win over Wayne last week. They will defend it against a rising Concordia Lutheran this week.

To start the season, I will be picking 10 girls games and then splitting that up once boys season is upon us. What you will not find today is Homestead at Concordia Lutheran, coming this Friday night, which will be highlighted later this week as the Outside the Huddle Game of the Weekend.

Last week: 7-3

Season total: 14-7

Bellmont at Bishop Dwenger, Tuesday

Two teams headed into distinctly different directions in the first two weeks meeting here. The Saints have looked solid and consistent and Bellmont has struggled with consistency in their first two outings, surprisingly losing to Woodlan last week after a solid first game. The Squaws ability to play up to their opponents is important because Bishop Dwenger will not be an east place to play. As much as the Saints have found balance, I still like the Squaws in this one to get their first win. Bounce picks Bellmont

Canterbury at Southern Wells, Tuesday

The Cavs haven’t won a game since February 2, 2018 but this is one where they have to not be considered as considerable of an underdog. Southern Wells sits at 0-3 and are not off to a great start. Canterbury may not be able to win in this one but a good showing would mean a considerable about to this program. Bounce picks Southern Wells

Huntington North at Carroll, Tuesday

All of the sudden, we have to talk about the Vikings because they’ve won their first three, even if the level of competition is not a Carroll level. Matt Hinds has continued to prove he was the right hire from this program and he has this team playing with confidence, something they didn’t have a lot of by this time last year. Carroll has a heavy week and can’t afford to look past the Vikings here. A focused Charger group is a defensively dangerous one. Bounce picks Carroll

Norwell at Bishop Luers, Wednesday

Two of the early season’s brightest stars are out in this one with the battle of the Knights. Homecourt advantage always matter and Luers isn’t an easy place to travel to. Norwell beat Angola over the weekend in part by taking cues from what Luers was able to do with the same Hornet team. Norwell has Bishop Luers well scouted, has Mark Pixley done equal work to be ready for the Ossian version of the Knights? My guess is yes and this is absolutely the must see game of the week and one that Bounce knows it the hardest one to pick of this batch but I can see Kaylee Fuelling just outpacing everyone on the floor. Bounce picks Norwell

Columbia City at Marion, Friday

The Eagles have answered the call for 11 of 12 quarters this season and they will get the stiffest test with Marion and big, bad RaShaya Kyle. This is a night where the Eagles will have to play the best they have around the basket and really make Marion work around the floor. Bounce picks Marion

Northrop at Carroll, Friday

The Bruins have some adjustments to make after a surprising loss to Concordia on Saturday and they have a week to adjust with just this game on their schedule. Carroll presents a challenge that is very similar to what the Bruins can do to teams. Without a traditional post for the Chargers, they are going to have to work extra hard to contain TiAuna White and Destiny Jackson, who will be rebounding machines. This is going to be a high quality game with two of the upper level teams in the SAC. Bounce picks Northrop

Leo at Woodlan, Friday

Woodlan turned into a totally different team to slow and stop Bellmont. But that team is probably just the team expected before a poor offensive night cost them at Garrett. As long as Woodlan can get going early, this one should go as expected. Leo is improved, but don’t have the offensive firepower that Woodlan does. Gabby Joyce has been strong and there is no reason to believe she won’t be a big player in this one. Bounce picks Woodlan

Angola at West Noble, Saturday

There can’t be many more things frustrating than coming off a loss in a game where you led by 10 and your best player put up career scoring numbers. So this is a bad time to be on the receiving end of whatever determination that Angola comes out of the gate with this game. West Noble is a dangerous team in the NECC and especially at home. But not only is Angola better right now, they are probably going to play a little mad this week. Bounce picks Angola

Noblesville at Homestead, Saturday

Both of these teams have a stiff test on Friday night with Homestead traveling to Concordia and Noblesville having to fight off Brownsburg. The expected absence of Ayanna Patterson will be in the forefront of some minds and it means that the Spartans are going to need to pick up rebounding and interior presence, which will fall on Amber Austin and Sydney Graber. Rebound the ball well and this one goes Sparty’s way. Bounce picks Homestead

Woodlan at Lakewood Park, Saturday

This is a quality test for Lakewood Park, who haven’t been able to produce so far outside of Chloe Jolloff and Taylor Gerke. They are going to have to prove deeper in this afternoon game to match up with Woodlan. Bounce is interested to see what they can try to do; a win would mean everything. Bounce picks Woodlan
