WEEK 4: Five players to watch on Friday night

Week 4 is here. After tonight, we are a full month into the regular season. Wow.

Each Friday we point out five players you should keep an extra eye on in the week’s games.

They may be guys in big games, players who excelled last week or guys who need to step up this week.

In any event, here are the five guys to watch out for tonight.

AIDEN REED, GARRETT (vs. Angola)

While Garrett has fallen to 0-3, Reed has been a massive bright spot and – according to MaxPreps – sits No. 5 in the state in rushing yards with 509 through the first three weeks. While Reed also leads the team with 26 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, he is the one keeping the Railroader offense chugging along. Last week in a tight loss at West Noble, Reed ran for 150 yards, which is actually his season low in a game, while also adding his second reception of the season.

GAGE FOGLE, EASTSIDE (at Fremont)

The junior linebacker has been a little bit of everywhere on a stout defense that sometimes doesn’t get the attention it deserves because of how strong the Eastside offense has been. Fogle is second on the squad with 23 tackles, but also leads the Blazers with 2.5 sacks and his single interception was returned 28 yards, the longest for the Blazers this season. Fogle also has a forced fumble on his resume. He should be focus No 1 for Fremont’s offensive line as they try to protect their big-yardage quarterback.

CJ BULLOCK, WOODLAN (at Bluffton)

Bullock has been a well used offensive weapon for the Warriors with a team second best six receptions through three weeks. His solo reception in week one was a 28 yard touchdown and each week he has increased his reception total with two in week two and three in week three. Bullock though got to really show off his wheels last Friday in a loss, when he returned a kick 97 yards for a touchdown.

LOGAN FRIEDEN, HOMESTEAD (at Northrop)

Frieden has been really diverse with his passing game this season, with 9 different guys hauling in catches so far, including three with 7 or more receptions on the young season. he has completed 38 of 66 passes for 553 total yards and three touchdowns. Better yet, Frieden hasn’t throw a pick all season and has also run for 145 yards and four more touchdowns.

ALEX SCOTT, EAST NOBLE (vs. DeKalb)

If you follow football in the area, you know Alex Scott and you are probably keeping an eye on him anyway. That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t get a focus here against a DeKalb team he could really excel against. Scott already has four interceptions this season, the most in the state according to Max Preps. Scott returns kickoffs, he punts the ball, plays stellar defense – he has 10 tackles and returns his interceptions for an average of 23.5 yards – and he has a team best 7 receptions for 143 yards and two touchdowns. There are do-it-all guys then there are do-it-all VERY GOOD guys.
