Week 1 is always the most difficult for picks, but hey, Blitz is a self-proclaimed expert, right?
So he needs to be better than hitting on 70 percent of his selections. You read this column for expertise, not amateur hour.
Interestingly, Blitz had the same 19-8 record in Week 1 last year. Consistency, no matter how mediocre, is key.
Let’s tackle Week 2, where Blitz promises to deliver.
Last week: 19-8 (.703)
ANDREAN AT BISHOP LUERS. The Knights go from playing a top team in Class 3A to perhaps one of the top 15 teams in the entire state, regardless of class. Bishop Luers fought Adams Central last week for three quarters, but turnovers and fatigue doomed them. The Knights need to play a near-perfect game to have a shot in this one. BLITZ SAYS ANDREAN BY 16.
CARROLL AT CENTER GROVE. Can the Chargers take their dynamic offense on the road to Center Grove University and outscore the Trojans? This is a bigger test than last week, and Center Grove isn’t exactly in a good mood after dropping its opener to Warren Central. How many Gabe Frisinger to Harrison Scheele TDs do we see? Over/under set at 2.5. BLITZ SAYS CENTER GROVE BY 2.
DECATUR CENTRAL AT WAYNE. The schedule for the Generals to start the season is brutal. Leo, Decatur Central, Bishop Dwenger, Snider. Eeks. The Hawks will be looking to shake off a 25-point Week 1 loss to Avon. Wayne may be up against it here. Can the Generals get on the scoreboard after being shut out by Leo? BLITZ SAYS DECATUR CENTRAL BY 31.
EAST NOBLE AT SNIDER. The big one in the area in Week 2. The opening of Russ Isaacs Stadium is the top story, but this is a key matchup for the Panthers, who do not want to start the season 0-2 for the second-straight season. Last year, East Noble dominated the line of scrimmage and the scoreboard in a 29-7 victory. How much better is Snider in 2026? Can the Knights pass effectively when they need to? Both questions that should be answered at “The Ike.” Blitz is and always has been afraid of Ike. No way he picks against him or his team on this night. BLITZ SAYS SNIDER BY 3.
CONCORDIA AT EASTBROOK. While the Cadets are riding high after a Week 1 victory, Eastbrook was pummeled by Huntington North on its home field. Might Coach Tim Mannigel’s team go 2-0 for the second time in three years? Another big night for quarterback Eli Trent would go a long way into making that happen. BLITZ SAYS CONCORDIA BY 4.
BISHOP DWENGER VS. ST. FRANCIS DE SALES (OH) AT THE GLASS BOWL. The Saints get the privilege of playing in the Glass Bowl, home stadium of Toledo football. After the thrill of the 3OT win last week, can Bishop Dwenger hit the road and beat a capable foe out of state? The offense is going to need to find some positive mojo, and the kicking game could be key once again. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 2.
NORTH SIDE AT NEW HAVEN. What a week it has been for North Side, for all the wrong reasons. Playing a football game will be a welcome distraction for the Legends’ roster. There is still a lot of talent that North can deploy, and starting QB Brandon Sanders will see his first action of the year in the second half of this one. The Legends could come out flat or they could come out hungry and motivated. If it is the latter, it is bad news for the Bulldogs. BLITZ SAYS NORTH SIDE BY 20.
NORTHROP AT WARSAW. These two teams haven’t met since the 2013 postseason. Northrop finally gets to play a game, while Warsaw is coming off the positive vibes of last week’s dub over Snider. Can the Bruins stay disciplined enough in defending the Tigers’ flexbone attack? Not sure if Northrop can win a shootout. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 4.
SOUTH SIDE AT SOUTH BEND ST. JOSEPH. The Archers are 1-0 for the first time in over 20 years. That alone is something to celebrate. St. Joseph is also coming off a rout for a victory, and should present a bigger challenge for South in Week 2. If this game is close in the fourth quarter, it will say a lot about the Archers. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH BEND ST. JOSEPH BY 13.
NOBLESVILLE AT HOMESTEAD. These are the games that the Spartans need to win. Noblesville is solid, but not spectacular. Homestead is out to show that it can compete with the majority of teams on its schedule. Westfield is on another level, so let’s just look past Week 1. Spartans need this one. BLITZ SAYS HOMESTEAD BY 3.
COLUMBIA CITY AT NORTHRIDGE. These two teams combined to score 107 points in Week 1. Will the offenses continue to have a field day against each other? Jake Scholl accounted for nine(!) TDs last week for Northridge – four passing and five rushing. Just a sophomore. Eagles need to slow him down. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 5.
DEKALB AT ANGOLA. Both squads are coming off impressive Week 1 performances. Angola’s offense looked much more balanced in the win over Goshen, but DeKalb is a step up in competition. The Barons may be down a few players in this one, giving the Hornets a better shot at opening a season 2-0 for the first time since 2020. BLITZ SAYS ANGOLA BY 7.
HUNTINGTON NORTH AT GARRETT. The Vikings’ plan of attack? Feed CJ Jemison. Rinse and repeat. BLITZ SAYS HUNTINGTON NORTH BY 18.
LEO AT BISHOP CHATARD. This is a challenging matchup that is flying a bit under the radar in Week 2. An offense that moved the ball with relative ease last week against Wayne will find things a bit tougher against the Trojans. A really good game to give Leo an idea of where they are at in the bigger landscape of Class 4A. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP CHATARD BY 22.
OAK HILL AT NORWELL. Apologies to the Knights, who Blitz completely dismissed last week heading into their game against Mississinewa. This should end up being a really good game, with Oak Hill losing a close one last week to Eastern, who is ranked in Class 2A. Norwell makes the plays in the fourth quarter to to to 2-0 entering NE8 play. BLITZ SAYS NORWELL BY 2.
SOUTH ADAMS AT BELLMONT. Bellmont came oh so close last week at Madison-Grant. This week? Not so close. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 25.
BLUFFTON AT CHURUBUSCO. The Eagles struggled at Bremen on defense, now they face a team that has a better offensive unit than Bremen. Not ideal. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 28.
EASTSIDE AT ADAMS CENTRAL. Luckily for Eastside, it no longer has to deal with Adams Central in the playoffs. So this is just a nice game to see where you are at. It is the same for the Flying Jets, who must find a way to contain Job Richman. AC has won six straight in the series. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 6.
BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT SOUTHERN WELLS. The Raiders have not started a season 2-0 since 2015. Oh it is so happening. BLITZ SAYS SOUTHERN WELLS BY 16.
HERITAGE AT DELTA. Blitz completely overlooked the Patriots in Week 1. Can they prove him wrong again down at Delta? BLITZ SAYS DELTA BY 5.
NEW CASTLE AT JAY COUNTY. Leighton Brown rushed for 327 yards and seven touchdowns last week against Blackford. New Castle is a tougher opponent, but he should still put up some big numbers. BLITZ SAYS JAY COUNTY BY 8.
WOODLAN AT CENTRAL NOBLE. Congratulations to Coach Gabe Stuck and the Cougars for beating up on Culver last week for victory No. 1. The Warriors will be a bit more stingy on defense. BLITZ SAYS WOODLAN BY 10.
BUCHANAN (MI) AT PRAIRIE HEIGHTS. Buchanan out of Michigan is nicknamed the Bucks. That is the extent of Blitz’s research for this one. BLITZ SAYS BUCHANAN (MI) BY 14.
GLENN AT FAIRFIELD. These two teams combined to score 11 touchdowns last week, all rushing. Safe to say look for this game to be decided on the ground. BLITZ SAYS FAIRFIELD BY 2.
LAKELAND AT PLYMOUTH. Coach Brent Corbett gets win No. 1 at Plymouth. BLITZ SAYS PLYMOUTH BY 6.
OSCEOLA GRACE AT FREMONT. Another lopsided victory for the Eagles. BLITZ SAYS FREMONT BY 31.
WEST NOBLE AT WAWASEE. Neither team showed much defense last week, with a combined 103 points scored against them. Chargers have too much offense. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 15.
