Coach Kyle Booher steps down from leading New Haven football program

New Haven’s Kyle Booher talks to an official during a September 8, 2023 game at Leo.

Just three weeks from scrimmages and a month until the regular season, an area football program is in need of a head coach.

Outside the Huddle has learned that Kyle Booher has stepped down as head football coach at New Haven to pursue an administrative position at Angola.

“It is true,” said Booher in a text on Thursday night.

Booher was set to begin his fourth campaign leading the Bulldogs this fall, a year after losing just twice – both defeats coming to East Noble. However, the 2024 season was setting up to be a rebuilding year with some coaching turnover along with losing starting quarterback Donovan Williams, leading rusher Tre Bates and the top four leading receivers by yardage.

Defensively, the top four tackles from 2023 have all graduated, along with all 10 of the team’s sacks and eight of its 11 interceptions.

The offseason also saw tragedy within the program, with offensive coordinator Lance Cline suddenly passing away in May at the age of 53.

Booher led the Bulldogs for three season, compiling a 18-13 overall record. He also coached Madison-Grant for three years from 2015-17. Overall, Booher is 24-37 as a head coach.

New Haven now must act quickly with the season looming. Without the time to do a proper coaching search, a promotion from within could be the most likely path.

The Bulldogs will scrimmage Angola on Aug. 16 before opening the regular season at Northrop one week later.
