Several area prospects make college commitments, including four-star Ifeanyi Emedobi of Northrop

Northrop’s Ifeanyi Emedobi, center, chose Michigan over other finalists Minnesota and Penn State last week.

Four of Outside the Huddle’s top 15 prospects for the Class of 2027 have made their commitments to play college football in the past week or so. June and July are some of the busiest months for recruiting with on-campus visits, and it’s very common for seniors-to-be to make their college decisions prior to beginning their final year of high school to take some of the pressure off and just focus on football.

The first prospect to make his commitment in the last couple of weeks was Northrop defensive lineman Camden Day. Prior to this season, Day had spent a lot of time playing both sides of the ball, primarily offensive line because that was where he was needed the most. This offseason, Day has put in countless hours of work, while attending camps and showcases throughout the Midwest and has looked much stronger and more fluid technique as a defensive lineman. He quickly caught the eyes of many scouts and recruiters in the region and received multiple offers. He has officially made his commitment to Kent State.

In a recent interview with WANE 15, Day revealed his bold statement regarding this year’s Northrop’s football program. “I think we’re the best D-Line in Indiana and I think we’re going to prove that this season,” Day told WANE-TV.

OTH’s No. 1-ranked prospect makes college commitment

Speaking of Northrop’s defensive front, its EDGE and our top-ranked prospect for the Class of ’27 is officially off the board. After eliminating Indiana and narrowing his college choices down to a final three – Penn State, Minnesota, and Michigan – Ifeanyi Emedobi officially made his college commitment to the University of Michigan on June 18.

The 6-foot-2, 214-pounder has quickly become one of the most hotly-pursued prospects in the Midwest, which is quite incredible when you consider last year was his first playing football. After impressing at multiple camps with his 4.48 40 time, 37-inch vertical and more standout numbers, Emedobi is just scratching the surface of his potential. His work with TractionAP’s Kalen Desrosiers has helped him learn quickly and he has embraced the grind with such determination.

“I couldn’t do this without Coach Kalen,” Emedobi said “He has really helped me throughout this whole process.”

With both Emedobi and Day making their college commitments, they can now alter their focus to football and back up their talk of being the best defensive line in the state of Indiana.

North Side produces more talent for next level

The day after Northrop’s Emedobi made his college commitment, North Side defensive tackle Omarion Waites officially committed to Eastern Michigan. EMU was the first program to offer Waites back in January, before Kent State, Bowling Green, Butler and Western Illinois all followed suit. But Waites makes it official with the Eagles. He finished with 98 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 4 sacks last season.

Another Legend made his commitment last week, when EDGE Leslie Woodson announced he will play for the Iowa State Cyclones in college. Woodson is coming off his junior season where he finished with 60 tackles, 13 TFL and 7 sacks. The younger brother of Jaylon Smith has aspirations to go to the NFL and believes Iowa State is the right fit for him to begin chasing those dreams.

All in all, the Legends continue to prepare their athletes for the next level. There’s a lot more talent on the roster that we will be keeping our eye on to see how their fall goes and where they could land in college, including Maalik Moore, Sutton Yorko, Sebastian Moore and others.
