Picks from the Pond for the Week of February 9

Girls season picks are mostly over for now – no more girls in this weekly column.

Each week, Bounce will pick Games on the boys side for the rest of the season. Looking to highlight the big games and the best matchups in the area. Unlike Blitz, we can’t quite pick every game because we don’t get to only play on Fridays, am I right?

If you know how Bounce picks, you know its different than that prognosticating bear in the fall. No projected scores or spreads here. Basketball is too unpredictable for silliness like that.

LAST TIME: 12-6

THIS SEASON: 122-39

LAST SEASON: 136-66

BOYS GAMES

CARROLL AT NORTH SIDE, TUESDAY

North Side is in the throws of a great winning streak, extended over the weekend with a big one at Warsaw. Carroll is coming off a week where they upset co-NE8 frontrunner Huntington North. These are two teams peaking at good times. BOUNCE PICKS NORTH SIDE

BISHOP LUERS AT SOUTH SIDE, TUESDAY

South Side hasn’t gotten the shine lately that they did early in the season but that doesn’t mean the Archers are any less dangerous. They still at 16-1 and one of the very top teams in the area. Luers wants to come down the road and cause an upset and would need to match a season best three straight wins here. The Archers haven’t seen much bending in their play though. BOUNCE PICKS SOUTH SIDE

SNIDER AT BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN, TUESDAY

This has game of the week written all over it. Snider and the Braves are both battle tested, even last week where both had to come back from deficits later in games than they would really want to. Snider had to do it against a lesser team while the Braves battled back to almost topple the #1 team in OTH’s most recent power poll. Predicting this one is as hard as any, but Snider’s depth deeps shining. BOUNCE PICKS SNIDER

HERITAGE AT NORWELL, TUESDAY

The Patriots took a tough conference loss last week and heading into The Castle is never the remedy when you need a bounce back. Norwell has been one of the area’s biggest and brightest surprises this season and this could be another marquee win. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL

ADAMS CENTRAL AT SOUTH ADAMS, FRIDAY

The county rivalry is always a good one. It has been an up and down season for both of these teams, with South Adams showing a lot of depth in the process, probably more so than we have seen from them in recent memory. Adams County battles are always fun on the gridiron AND the hardwood. BOUNCE PICKS SOUTH ADAMS

BELLMONT AT DEKALB, FRIDAY

Caden Rice has shined as of late for DeKalb, who hasn’t been too shabby as a team. With the Barons starting to show some serious signs of being able to cause chaos at the end of the season and into the postseason, they are a tough matchup for everyone. Daniel Selking will be the best player on the floor, but the Bellmont sophomore doesn’t have as much experience around him as Rice does. BOUNCE PICKS DEKALB

NORWELL AT HUNTINGTON NORTH, FRIDAY

The Vikings made a statement last Saturday with their win over New Haven. Now they have the chance to lock up a share of the conference title by hosting those previously mentioned surprising Norwell Knights. This is a game where Norwell is going to have to step up big time on the inside to handle Dalton Husband and Blaine Freiburger. The Vikings are long and that is going to be something hard to handle. BOUNCE PICKS HUNTINGTON NORTH

SOUTH SIDE AT WAYNE, FRIDAY

The tempo in this one is going to tell a story, no matter what it is. Do they try to slow each other down or is this being scored in the 80s somewhere? BOUNCE PICKS SOUTH SIDE
