Recently, we unveiled our plan to name area programs’ top five players of the 21st century, which sits at 25 seasons in both football and basketball.
Reminder, this is based on high school career performance ONLY. This is by no means a definitive list and, if anything, is encouraging debate on potential omissions to this list.
Through exhaustive research, reaching out to former coaches and players and our own personal opinion, here is the OTH Quarter Century Team for Westview Warriors boys basketball.
Note: The list is in alphabetical order
Chandler Aspy
Aspy emerged as Westview’s key front-court scorer during the 2013–14 run, averaging around 15.8 points and six rebounds and then delivering 19 points in both the semi-state and the Class 2A state final, where Westview finished 23–5 as state runner-up. A 6’4″ forward (and soccer letterman), Aspy was recognized among Indiana’s top seniors the following season, when he averaged 23.8 points per game for the 2014-15 Westview team that scored an average of 47.0 ppg. He added 7.5 rebounds per game and shot 60.9 percent from the field as a senior, being named the Goshen News Player of the Year. Aspy finished his career with 1,299 points.
Jordyn Bontrager
A dynamic class of 2014 guard, he anchored the Warriors during their 2013–14 run to the Class 2A state finals. In his senior season, he averaged 17.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game, while shooting 53% from the floor, 39% from beyond the arc, and 77% from the line. Those were big numbers as he really broke out as a senior to lead the team within a hair of a state title. As a junior, he shot 42 percent from three point range. He was a three year starter for the Warriors.
Elijah Hales
Hales concluded his Westview career in 2019 with over 1,500 career points, ranking among the program (5th) and county’s all-time top scorers. As a senior, he averaged 14.3 points for a 25-6 team that won the NECC title. He was an Indiana Junior All-Star in 2018 after having 31 points in a semi state loss and averaging 14.9 points per game while shooting 58.6 percent. In his career, Hales helped the Warriors to a four year record of 83-27 with three Sectional crowns and a Regional title. He continued his basketball career at DePauw University.
Charlie Yoder
He had a historic run at Westview (2016–20), finishing with 2,163 career points to become both the school’s all-time leader and one of Indiana’s top 25 scorers ever. A four-year starter, he set Westview’s single-game (52) and single-season (734) scoring records, averaged nearly 28 points and 9 rebounds per game as a senior as the Outside the Huddle Player of the Year, and earned repeated All-State and NECC honors while guiding his teams to multiple sectional crowns and a semi-state berth.
Adam Christner
A quick, ball-handling guard, Christner was a four-year impact player for Westview, graduating in 2009 with 1,220 career points after playing in 98 games in his career and state-wide notice for his playmaking. As a junior, he was among the IHSAA assists leaders list with 4.2 per game; he also had 9.6 points per game which was actually a career low. As a senior, he was named AP All-State while averaging 14.5 points per game to go with five rebounds. Christner opened his career averaging 13 points per game as a freshman, followed by 12.8 points as a sophomore where he shot a career best 61.9 percent from the field.
