HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Blitz’s Picks, Week 4

Conference play brings out the best in teams, and it definitely brought out the best in Blitz.

Yes, he still has it out for Eastside, apparently, but a three-loss week isn’t too shabby considering how weeks 1 and 2 went.

Let’s see if Blitz’s good vibes can roll on.

Last week: 18-3 (.857)

Overall: 56-19 (.746)

CONCORDIA AT NORTH SIDE. The Legends couldn’t corral the greatness in the second half that was Jerquaden Guilford last week at Northrop. Concordia lacks that firepower, so North Side will rebound. BLITZ SAYS NORTH SIDE BY 31.

BISHOP DWENGER AT CARROLL. A budding rivalry? You bet. Neither team has “proven” itself against a quality area foe, so whoever wins this one will have that going for them. The Saints have the better record, but Carroll has played the tougher schedule. Can Bishop Dwenger’s offense find holes to exploit in the Chargers’ defense? Can Gabe Frisinger continue his solid play at quarterback for Carroll against an aggressive defensive? Both great questions. Blitz goes with the favorite. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 5.

BISHOP LUERS AT SOUTH SIDE. Last time these two teams met last October, the Archers headed back up Calhoun St. with a one-point victory. Bishop Luers has revenge on its mind, but can the Knights complete drives without falling short of the end zone? BLITZ SAYS BISHOP LUERS BY 6.

NORTHROP AT HOMESTEAD. The Bruins hype machine invades Aboite looking to continue its undefeated start to the season. Northrop is going to need to play cleaner football than it did against North Side. Conversely, who gets the assignments on Guilford, Maddox Weil and others for Sparty? Homestead needs to get pressure to prevent David Callison from picking it apart. BLITZ SAYS HOMESTEAD BY 6.

WAYNE AT SNIDER. The defense of the Panthers took a big step forward last week in the shutout of Bishop Luers. The Generals have scored just six points through three games. BLITZ SAYS SNIDER BY 26.

BELLMONT AT NORWELL. The Knights’ first three games has included Class 3A No. 2 Mississinewa and 4A No. 5 Leo, in addition to a decent Oak Hill team on the road. Coach Josh Gerber’s team gets a respite from the grind this Friday. BLITZ SAYS NORWELL BY 44.

COLUMBIA CITY AT HUNTINGTON NORTH. Another team that has had quite the front-loaded schedule, it doesn’t get any easier for the Vikings here. Huntington North’s first four foes are a combined 12-0 entering Week 4. Columbia City hasn’t lost to the Vikings since 2009. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 17.

EAST NOBLE AT DEKALB. Junior Alex Scott is averaging nearly 23 yards per reception so far this year for the Knights. He is a big playmaker who also has multiple interceptions. Can he increase both his YPC and pick total against the Barons? BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 20.

NEW HAVEN AT LEO. The defense of the Lions has held three-straight teams to seven or less points to start the season for the first time since 2013. New Haven is getting better, but its going to struggle against that maniacal defensive unit. BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 24.

ADAMS CENTRAL AT JAY COUNTY. Where is Jay County’s mindset after the loss to Southern Wells last week? The Flying Jets won’t be too accommodating, Blitz thinks. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 43.

BLUFFTON AT WOODLAN. AJ Streveler has 11 total receptions for Bluffton through three weeks. Six of them have gone for touchdowns. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 23.

HERITAGE AT SOUTH ADAMS. Despite the loss last week, the Starfires are looking like a team that will contend in the 1A north. Heritage’s defense has been stingy, but it hasn’t faced an offense like Moser’s crew quite yet. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 4.

WES-DEL AT SOUTHERN WELLS. The Raiders have not won two consecutive games in 10 years. BLITZ SAYS WES-DEL BY 21.

ANGOLA AT WEST NOBLE. The Chargers just could not get defensive stops when they needed them last week against Eastside. Things should come a little bit easier in that regard against the Hornets. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 20.

EASTSIDE AT CHURUBUSCO. Can Churubusco make this game ugly enough to pick up a victory? This has been the de facto Small Division title game in the NECC in recent years. Eastside wants the division back after the Eagles snatched it last year. Blazers will prevail. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 11.

FAIRFIELD AT CULVER ACADEMY. This one comes down to a simple question – Can Culver slow down Fairfield running back Warren Kaufman? After dealing with Knox’s Myles Mclaughlin last week, this is not as big of a challenge, but still one the Eagles will have problems with. BLITZ SAYS FAIRFIELD BY 14.

GARRETT AT LAKELAND. Good for the Railroaders to get a win last week, because they have Lakeland, Eastside and West Noble in consecutive weeks starting Friday. Ouch. BLITZ SAYS LAKELAND BY 8.

OSCEOLA GRACE AT FREMONT. Carmyne Moreno time! BLITZ SAYS FREMONT BY 21.

PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT CENTRAL NOBLE. Could the Cougars end a 14-game losing streak? Sure, why not. BLITZ SAYS CENTRAL NOBLE BY 2.

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT SHENANDOAH. The Raiders nearly clipped Bluffton in Week 1. BLITZ SAYS SHENANDOAH BY 31.

WAWASEE AT WARSAW. The 40th edition of “The W Game” where, interestingly, the two teams battle for the “W trophy.” Wawasee hasn’t held “the W” aloft since 2014. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 28.
