PREP FOOTBALL: Blitz’s Picks, Week 6

It’s amazing how fast the football season goes, isn’t it?

A short time ago, we were kicking off the campaign in August. Now, we are on the cusp of October, the month in which the playoffs arrive.

A lot to determine over the next four weeks. But something that has already been determined is Blitz’s adept ability at picking winners and losers, except apparently for Churubusco.

Who emerges victorious on what could be a wet and windy night? Let’s take a look.

Last week: 16-3 (.842)

Overall: 92-23 (.800)

CARROLL AT WAYNE. After a pair of lopsided victories over Bishop Dwenger and Snider, might the Chargers have a letdown in this one? If the Carroll offense executes to its potential, the Generals are in trouble. Wayne has some firepower, but hasn’t been able to find much success with it against solid SAC foes. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 16.

CONCORDIA LUTHERAN AT SOUTH SIDE. The Archers’ only victory over the last two years was last season’s Week 6 showdown with the Cadets. Can South make it two straight? Concordia has a pair of victories on the year, but Coach Andre Goodwell’s team has played a more difficult schedule than people think, with non-conference foes Marion and South Bend St. Joseph both having winning records. Blitz is rooting for South to get a dub. Can it happen? BLITZ SAYS CONCORDIA BY 7.

NORTH SIDE AT BISHOP LUERS. With a victory Friday, Bishop Luers is in prime shape to repeat as SAC Small Division champions. That said, North Side will be a challenge. How much success can Tristen Newsome have behind center against the veteran back end of the Knights’ defense? Conversely, can North contain Daryea Williams on the ground? BLITZ SAYS BISHOP LUERS BY 6.

NORTHROP AT BISHOP DWENGER. The Saints are 1-4 for the first time since 1998, but get a reprieve here with the Bruins struggling to slow anyone down defensively and being short-handed on the offensive side. Bishop Dwenger needs a “get right” game, and this is it. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 23.

HOMESTEAD AT SNIDER. Just how good are the Spartans really? We will find out over the next two weeks with the Panthers and Carroll on the schedule. A well-coached team coming off of a sub-par performance is dangerous. Snider hasn’t lost back-to-back SAC games since 2020. BLITZ SAYS SNIDER BY 5.

HUNTINGTON NORTH AT DEKALB. The Barons have not shown that they can slow down the running game. The problem with that is, the Vikings are at their best when they can move the ball on the ground. The last time Huntington North won an NE8 game on the road outside of Bellmont? At DeKalb in 2020. Interesting. BLITZ SAYS HUNTINGTON NORTH BY 3.

LEO AT BELLMONT. This isn’t going to end well. BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 47.

NEW HAVEN AT COLUMBIA CITY. The rushing attack of the Eagles continues to put up stupid numbers, averaging 322 yards per game and 26 touchdowns over five games. It should run wild again this week. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 32.

NORWELL AT EAST NOBLE. In hindsight, Norwell’s 0-3 start wasn’t as bad as we thought considering the competition (teams a combined 13-3). After an emotional win last week, it wouldn’t be surprising to see East Noble come out a bit sluggish, but it won’t affect the end result. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 24.

ADAMS CENTRAL AT SOUTH ADAMS. Traditionally, this rivalry game delivers on the hype. But it has been pretty lopsided of late, with Adams Central winning the last six by an average of 38 points. If the Starfires can get off to a quick start and get some bounces to go their way, perhaps they can keep it close. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 22.

HERITAGE AT TIPTON. The first game ever between these two teams. Tipton is 4-1 but hasn’t beaten a team with a winning record. Freshman QB Quinne Tolle is talented, but still a freshman. Heritage shakes off the AC loss with a victory on the road. BLITZ SAYS HERITAGE BY 10.

BLUFFTON AT SOUTHERN WELLS. This one isn’t going to end well either. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 48.

WOODLAN AT JAY COUNTY. A pair of teams trying to find their way. Both squads are at their best when they can move the chains on the ground. Blitz was impressed with the way Jay County hung around and challenged Bluffton on the road in Week 5. BLITZ SAYS JAY COUNTY BY 7.

CHURUBUSCO AT FREMONT. Might the Churubusco Eagles be your NECC Small Division champions in a few weeks? They can take another step forward to that with a road win this week. Coach Paul Sade’s team is another one we kind of wrote off after an 0-3 start without factoring in the quality of opponents. Fremont also began the year 0-3. At this point, ‘Busco fans, do you really want Blitz to pick you? BLITZ SAYS FREMONT BY 2.

FAIRFIELD AT ANGOLA. Fairfield has completed eight passes through five games, meaning its running game is of paramount importance. Angola has lost all three of its home contests so far. The losing skid ends! BLITZ SAYS ANGOLA BY 6.

GARRETT AT WEST NOBLE. The biggest game in the area this week. A showdown of undefeated and state-ranked 3A squads who also happen to reside in the same sectional. Is this Round 1 of 2 this year? No one so far has been able to slow down West Noble’s rushing attack, and the defense has been stellar, led by senior Jordan Eash, who paces the Chargers in tackles (38), tackles for loss (13.5) and sacks (five). Eash and company get the stops necessary to win this one. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 3.

LAKELAND AT CENTRAL NOBLE. The Lakers will get their own shot at West Noble next week, but first they need to take care of business against the Cougars. That shouldn’t be a problem. BLITZ SAYS LAKELAND BY 21.

PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT EASTSIDE. The Blazers have won 15 straight games over Heights. The last loss coming in Week 9 of the 2010 campaign. Might that streak end on Friday? This one is a toss-up. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 2.

PLYMOUTH AT WARSAW. You can bet that blowing a 17-point lead in the second half to Concord has been a constant at practice for Warsaw this week. Plymouth is improved under third-year coach Adam Handley, but isn’t powerful enough yet to slow down the Tigers’ rushing attack. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 24.

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT PARK TUDOR. Another tough matchup for the Braves. BLITZ SAYS PARK TUDOR BY 31.
