Two weeks in and we still don’t have much idea on how league races are going to go. At least, no more than what we knew prior to the start of the season.
Blitz is also struggling, with another sub-par performance.
Time to get serious, both for Blitz and for area teams, as conference play kicks off.
Last week: 19-8 (.703)
Overall: 40-15 (.727)
CONCORDIA LUTHERAN AT SNIDER. The Cadets are 2-0 for the first time in 46 years. In that year of 1978, the Panthers beat the Cadets 21-12. Blitz believes it won’t be that close this time around. BLITZ SAYS SNIDER BY 29.
BISHOP DWENGER AT NORTH SIDE. Where are the heads at for this one? North Side is coming off getting knocked around by Lawrence North. Dwenger has been hearing how good it was to play well against Moeller and may or may not have its starting QB in Henry Jordan. The Saints need this one with Carroll and Homestead looming. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 6.
NORTHROP AT BISHOP LUERS. No team in the SAC has scored more points in the first two weeks of the season than the Bruins. No team in the SAC has allowed more points in the first two weeks of the season than the Bruins. The Knights have the athletes to stay with Northrop’s playmakers. They won’t totally shut them down, but rather slow them enough. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP LUERS BY 7.
SOUTH SIDE AT CARROLL. Blitz was really hoping South Side would get a non-conference victory in one of the last two weeks. It didn’t happen, and now the Archers have to go to Carroll, who is itching to take its frustrations of being 0-2 out on someone. That someone is South Side. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 33.
WAYNE AT HOMESTEAD. This will be a telling game for both teams, but also won’t decide much of anything. In separate divisions, a loss doesn’t hurt either in its quest for an SAC crown. Weird with the new format, isn’t it? However, if Wayne is as good as some people think, this game will be close. Gotta side with the experienced QB down the stretch if this one is decided late. BLITZ SAYS HOMESTEAD BY 5.
BELLMONT AT COLUMBIA CITY. This is the time of the season where we start wondering if Columbia City is for real. We may not have to wait as long as usual if Huntington North, Week 4’s opponent, is for real. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 41.
EAST NOBLE AT HUNTINGTON NORTH. Is this the biggest regular-season game in 15 years for the Vikings? A chance to prove they are for real after beginning the campaign 2-0 for the first time in 17 seasons. East Noble is good, but how good? Good enough to go on the road and beat an upstart Huntington North team? Blitz is a sucker for a good story. BLITZ SAYS HUNTINGTON NORTH BY 2.
NEW HAVEN AT DEKALB. This is a better game on paper than what Blitz thought it would be a few weeks ago. Kudos to Coach Vance Shearer in keeping the Bulldogs competitive. DeKalb’s emotional loss last week will be fuel for this Friday. BLITZ SAYS DEKALB BY 9.
NORWELL AT LEO. The Knights’ non-conference schedule hasn’t been easy with Mississinewa and Delta, but back-to-back shutout losses doesn’t bode well for the NE8 season. Should be a stat-filled night for Leo in its home opener. BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 28.
BLUFFTON AT SOUTH ADAMS. This has become a fun ACAC matchup in the last several years between two good friends and coaches, as well as a pair of solid programs. The question here is, can the Starfires contain the rushing attack, especially with QB Axton Beste. Blitz just isn’t sure. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 14.
HERITAGE AT WOODLAN. The Patriots have not lost any momentum with new coach Jeremy Hullinger. The competition hasn’t been stellar so far, but Heritage’s defense has been exceptional. That will be the difference here against a Warriors team with a lot of underclassmen in key roles. BLITZ SAYS HERITAGE BY 16.
MUNCIE CENTRAL AT ADAMS CENTRAL. Apparently, Adams Central is “back” after thumping Eastside. Who said it even went anywhere? BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 23.
SOUTHERN WELLS AT JAY COUNTY. If there was one game Blitz whiffed on big time last week, it was picking Jay County to beat New Castle, only for the Pats to get shut out and lose by 20. This is another gimme, but Bluffton and AC loom in the next two weeks. BLITZ SAYS JAY COUNTY BY 38.
ANGOLA AT FREMONT. These two teams, despite being in the same league, are facing off for the first time since 2016. Over/under Hawk Hasselman 300 total yards? Take the over. BLITZ SAYS ANGOLA BY 32.
EASTSIDE AT WEST NOBLE. The strength of West Noble is the run game with Seth Pruitt. Eastside was gouged by Adams Central on the ground last week. Strength on weakness is advantage – Chargers. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 12.
GARRETT AT CHURUBUSCO. That train keeps rollin’ for the Railroaders. Yes Garrett Barstool, Blitz will get to Garrett at some point. BLITZ SAYS GARRETT BY 35.
JIMTOWN AT FAIRFIELD. While Jimtown has begun the season 0-2, it has lost to a pair of pretty good teams in NorthWood and Concord. BLITZ SAYS JIMTOWN BY 13.
LAVILLE AT CENTRAL NOBLE. The Cougs are averaging just 1.8 yards per rush through two games. That should improve on Friday. BLITZ SAYS CENTRAL NOBLE BY 7.
PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT LAKELAND. The first real test for the undefeated Panthers. Lakeland is going to challenge the Heights defense with its passing game. It will be too much to handle. BLITZ SAYS LAKELAND BY 22.
GOSHEN AT WARSAW. Goshen is in rebuild mode under a first-year coach. Warsaw is a machine under Coach Bart Curtis. Good bounce-back game for the Tigers after a learning experience of sorts at Warren Central in Week 2. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 40.
