It’s tournament time! Well, it’s not the tournament that you’re thinking of. The ACAC and NECC Tournaments are this week and the picks will be all about the two conference tournaments.
I’ll pick the matchups that are already set plus the team to win it all on both sides.
Last week: 13-3
2022-23 record: 83-32 (.722)
Boys
ACAC Tournament
Woodlan at Bluffton, Tuesday
The Warriors just doubled up the Tigers on Saturday, so no upset coming in this one. BOUNCE PICKS WOODLAN
Heritage at Jay County, Tuesday
There’s a lot to like about the Patriots from Monroeville in this matchup. They are a good shooting team that can get hot at any time, like for a tournament run. BOUNCE PICKS HERITAGE
South Adams at Adams Central, Tuesday
The Starfires have trouble scoring and the Flying Jets might have turned a corner. Bounce loves a good rivalry game but has a hard time seeing this one be close. BOUNCE PICKS ADAMS CENTRAL
Tournament champion: WOODLAN
NECC Tournament
Churubusco at Eastside, Tuesday
Both teams have struggled to find some consistency but the Blazers certainly have more weapons. BOUNCE PICKS EASTSIDE
Lakeland at Hamilton, Tuesday
Marines are winless. Lakeland could make a little run here. BOUNCE PICKS LAKELAND
Fairfield at Prairie Heights, Tuesday
The Panthers escaped with a five-point win over the Falcons a month ago. Bounce doesn’t think it’ll be that close this time around. BOUNCE PICKS PRAIRIE HEIGHTS
Fremont at Garrett, Tuesday
Garrett shocked the Eagles a couple weeks ago at the East Noble Holiday Tournament. Which team will take the rubber match? BOUNCE PICKS FREMONT
Central Noble at Angola, Wednesday
The Cougars have already won once this season at Angola and they’re playing better defensively. BOUNCE PICKS CENTRAL NOBLE
Westview at West Noble, Wednesday
As you can see below, the Chargers are my tournament champion. They will be challenged every step of the way, including against the Warriors. BOUNCE PICKS WEST NOBLE
Tournament champion: WEST NOBLE
Girls
ACAC Tournament
Woodlan at Bluffton, Tuesday
Outside of Jay County, Woodlan is the hottest team headed into the tournament. The Warriors have won six straight and already beat the Tigers once this season. The Tigers will push the Warriors but they won’t be able to hold them down for four quarters. BOUNCE PICKS WOODLAN
Heritage at Jay County, Tuesday
Jay County has the best player in this tournament and has won 14 games in a row. No one is stopping Jay County this week. They’re on a roll and are gearing up for another type of tournament run in a few weeks. BOUNCE PICKS JAY COUNTY
South Adams at Adams Central, Tuesday
The Starfires finally got back into the win column after a mid-season lull. The Flying Jets got the best of their rivals once already this season. Bounce doesn’t expect that to happen again. BOUNCE PICKS SOUTH ADAMS
Tournament champion: JAY COUNTY
NECC Tournament
Churubusco at Eastside, Tuesday
The young Eagles have made strides this season but it won’t be enough to make a run or challenge the Blazers. BOUNCE PICKS EASTSIDE.
Lakeland at Hamilton, Tuesday
The Marines have only played one varsity squad, Churubusco, from the NECC this season and lost by 34. BOUNCE PICKS LAKELAND
Fairfield at Prairie Heights, Tuesday
Fairfield is my favorite to win the conference tournament and should start it off with a big win over the Panthers. BOUNCE PICKS FAIRFIELD
Fremont at Garrett, Tuesday
Both teams have had big swings of playing well then not so well. The Eagles look like they are starting to put it together after a disaster start to the season. BOUNCE PICKS FREMONT
Central Noble at Angola, Wednesday
The Cougars are the best defensive team in this tournament. Their defense will carry them a long way, even a trip to the title game. They should take care of business versus the Hornets. BOUNCE PICKS CENTRAL NOBLE
Westview at West Noble, Wednesday
The Warriors had their highest point total of the season against the Chargers back in early December. Can they surpass that number this time around? Bounce thinks so. BOUNCE PICKS WESTVIEW
Tournament champion: FAIRFIELD
