No. 2: Brauntae Johnson, North Side

You absolutely won’t find a better athlete in the area than Brauntae Johnson, who excels on the basketball court almost as well as he can on a football field. He is so incredibly fast, they may not have mad an adjective yet for his level of speed and it allows him to make plays in a way that looks effortless a lot of the time. He averaged 18.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.7 steals per game last season, showing how much he is able to do all over the court. Johnson’s ability to score is without question but his uptick in assists shows that he has learned when teams are keying on him so much that he can easily get others involved in the North Side offense. He is one of the area’s best on ball defenders and has a knack for changing speed and direction quickly, not allowing for there to be a single lane for an opposing ball handler to find more often than not.

COACH’S QUOTE ON BRAUNTAE JOHNSON

“I fell he is the best player in the area and one of the best in the state. He has improved his outside shot and he can get to the rim, is a good passer, a great rebounder and a good kid. He makes us go and just wants to win.” – North Side coach Gary Andrews
