Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2022 season.

Our highest preseason honor, the fourth-annual First Eleven profiles the top players (in the mind of Outside the Huddle) entering this fall.

No. 10: LB Dylan Bennett, senior, Carroll

When it comes to physical specimens, Bennett fits the bill. The measurements don’t scream intimidation at 6-foot and 215 pounds, but when you see Bennett’s chiseled physique coupled with his relentless energy and passion, it is tough not to be concerned.

Bennett is a special type of player. He admits that without football, there would not be an outlet in which he could funnel his physicality in a positive manner. His drive is exceptional and he gives his all on every play. Sometimes his passion goes into overdrive and he is a bit TOO physical (mostly after the whistle), but you’d rather have that than a kid who won’t play up to his potential.

Bennett commands the middle of the Carroll defense and is an absolute ball hawk. He grabbed four interceptions last season, three of which he took to the house for touchdowns. He finished the season with 84 tackles and 12 TFL to go with his three picks. Bennett even scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in 2021.

Bennett is a lot to handle, pure and simple.

COACH’S QUOTE ON DYLAN BENNETT

“Dylan is a tireless worker who leads our linebacker corps. He is obviously blessed with all the physical tools needed, but he is now a student of the game and is a very smart football player. We are expecting big things out of Dylan in both our run and pass defense.” – Carroll defensive coordinator Joe Rudolph
