Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2022 season.
Our highest preseason honor, the fourth-annual First Eleven profiles the top players (in the mind of Outside the Huddle) entering this fall.
No. 11: RB/LB Dax Holman, senior, Eastside
Aa blue collar as they come, Holman is a classic example of a dude who loves the physicality of football.
A confident player with a touch of spunk that can rub some teams the wrong way (just ask Bishop Luers), Holman backs it up with superb play on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
On offense, Holman holds down the backfield while also being a receiving threat. A season ago, he rushed for 868 yards and 14 touchdowns while also hauling in 10 catches for 172 yards and four scores.
While Laban Davis got a lot of the glory on offense, it was players like Holman who created the situation in which Davis thrived. Teams could not hone in completely on Davis in the run game knowing that a player the caliber of Holman was Option 2, or maybe 1B.
Defensively, Holman is a ball hawk who seems to end up around the ball on every play. He is not overly fast, but his quickness sideline to sideline is still impressive, especially when he finishes with a strong, fundamental tackle. He concluded his junior season with 86 tackles, 12 TFL and 3.5 sacks.
COACH’S QUOTE ON DAX HOLMAN
“Dax is the most complete football player I have ever coached. Not only is he a physical presence on both side of the ball, he knows everyone’s job on both sides. We are excited to see Dax on Friday nights!” – Eastside coach Todd Mason
