Bounce’s Picks for the Week of February 22

Somehow we are down to the final week of boys regular season basketball. Some teams have already wrapped up their regular season and others have heavy weeks ahead to prepare for Sectional play. One last conference will be decided this week as well with Westview looking to wrap up the NECC.

Homestead retained Bounce’s completely invisible traveling trophy last week so they will carry that into the 2021-22 season with them.

Here are my picks for this week.

LAST WEEK: 9-4

2020-21 RECORD: 170-63

BOYS

CENTRAL NOBLE AT SOUTH SIDE, MONDAY

After last week, we have to wonder if anyone can outdo the Cougars at this point. The have nearly as much momentum as anyone in the area right now. Perfect timing right? BOUNCE PICKS CENTRAL NOBLE

CONCORDIA AT NORWELL, MONDAY

A traditional early season game becomes more interesting this late. Both are trying to secure a momentum win heading into Sectional play and have the ability to really light things up. Which team can take better care of the ball and be more consistent. Norwell hasn’t gotten a ton of attention lately but Luka McBride has been playing fantastic basketball. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL

ANGOLA AT EAST NOBLE, TUESDAY

Angola let me down last week and the good folks of Decatur let me hear about it. Have a feeling that Kendallville wouldn’t be as forgiving. Oh what the heck…BOUNCE PICKS ANGOLA

CHURUBUSCO AT NORTH SIDE, TUESDAY

This is the game that both of these teams need right now. North Side gets a major test when you look at the top end of Busco’s lineup. Jordan Green is coming off a great week but he’s not a true big so Landen Jordan is a huge test for him. For Busco, they have to realize that North is going to put big time athletes at every spot on the floor so its time for the freshmen for the Eagles to start playing like seasoned vets every single possession. This is the game of the week and its a toss up. BOUNCE PICKS CHURUBUSCO

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT LEO, TUESDAY

This was always going to be a big task for Leo. They are coming off of a week of tough loss and easy win so how will they do with the biggest task of this season. Can DJ Allen and Zack Troyer slow Caleb Furst? Does Blackhawk hit deep shots? Big critical roles in this one. Leo makes it a game for a bit, but BC is too good right now. BOUNCE PICKS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN

FREMONT AT WESTVIEW, TUESDAY

The chance to close out a conference title at home? The whistler is loud again and Westview has avoided all errors of finality so why wouldn’t they here? Fremont gives it a good fight, but the Warriors reign. BOUNCE PICKS WESTVIEW

BISHOP DWENGER AT BELLMONT, TUESDAY

So, remember when I said Decatur wasn’t happy last week. Well, be prepared to be upset again. Dwenger is playing some of the area’s best basketball right now and winning in a variety of ways. This is a tough team and Bellmont has been much better than expected but as they told me, home court doesn’t mean anything this season. BOUNCE PICKS BISHOP DWENGER

BLUFFTON AT SOUTH ADAMS, WEDNESDAY

Originally scheduled for last week, my prediction doesn’t change. Even with the ACAC determined, this is going to be a really fun high end ACAC game. The rematch of the ACAC Tournament final should not disappoint on the same court…with the same outcome? BOUNCE PICKS SOUTH ADAMS

SOUTH SIDE AT NEW HAVEN, THURSDAY

The kryptonite for New Haven is when they have to slow things down. This team is so much better in transition than in the half court. Good thing for them, South Side is here to run too. BOUNCE PICKS NEW HAVEN
