This Friday, December 20, Whitko High School will be raising money for the family of one of their current students and a members of their boys basketball coaching staff.
The Wildcats are asking for cash donations at entry to the game to support the West family, who’s home was recently lost to a fire. Junior Summer West was severely injured in the fire; she is currently undergoing treatment at Riley’s Children’s Hospital. Her brother, River West, is the current seventh grade coach and is a member of the Wildcats’ 1,000 point scoring club.
According to a press release from the school, the Whitko community rallied around the family in November to raise awareness to the West family’s situation and assist them with their financial burden. Friday night’s fundraiser will be a chance for the community and those in attendance to assist in ongoing family and medical expenses.
The boys basketball program is hopeful for a good turnout at this game to help give back to the family.
There is also a GoFundMe account set up where money can be donated at this link.
After the boys varsity game, the Whitko team will be available for autographs for team posters, priced at $3 each. At that time, the players will be accepting free-will donations that will go to the West family.
The boys JV team will be playing starting at 5 p.m., followed by a girls varsity game and the night will conclude with the boys varsity team hosting Tippecanoe Valley, with a tip time expected around 7:45 p.m.
