Bounce’s Picks for the Week of Nov. 11

bounceinset_21

Well that wasn’t such a bad way to start the season, though there were some upsets to Bounce in week one of the girls season. There will be some ebbs and flows to this as everyone get their webbed feet wet and we see who really are gamers and who are just filled with hype.

I’ll try to do better this time around.

For those who kept up with my totally invisible, semi fictious “traveling trophy” last year, it is back too. Homestead has it from 2018-2019 and will defend it at Wayne this week.

To start the season, I will be picking 10 girls games and then splitting that up once boys season is upon us. What you will not find today is Angola at Norwell coming this Saturday, which will be highlighted later this week as the Outside the Huddle Game of the Weekend.

Last week: 7-4

Season total: 7-4

Angola at Bishop Luers, Tuesday

A quality first test for the Hornets. This game was a fun low scoring affair last year. Again this year, the Knights are expected to be at the top of the SAC but this time around, there is no underestimating Angola from the rest of us. Bishop Luers looked good on Saturday, but how good? Angola is far better than Central Noble. I love this game, I can’t imagine a better game for a Tuesday night. How much better is everyone at Angola? Until I know that, I have to remember I do know what Bishop Luers does at the rim. Bounce picks Bishop Luers

Bellmont at Concordia Lutheran, Tuesday

The Cadets got an early quick win against overmatched New Haven, now they have to avoid a letdown, which is easier said than done against Bellmont. The Squaws are getting a later than planned start with their volleyball team playing for a state title last weekend. Kenzie McMahon is the difference here. How? Every way. Bounce picks Bellmont

Columbia City at West Noble, Tuesday

Not an easy road game here for an Eagle team that collapsed in the fourth quarter over the weekend and blew a major lead against Carroll. West Noble went 2-0 last week but didn’t face the quality of this team. A lot of this depends on his the Eagles break or bounce back from how they were bended late on Saturday. My guess on that dictates my pick. Bounce picks Columbia City

Prairie Heights at Heritage, Tuesday

First of a couple interesting tests for Heritage this week, but so far they’ve looked solid and may even be the standard in the ACAC. Alexis German will test the Patriot guard play, but Heritage is a traditionally difficult place to play for a reason. There is more depth than we thought for Heritage, but Bree Dossen is also even more dominant than she’s been in the past. Bounce picks Heritage

Leo at Wayne, Wednesday

This one isn’t as much about Leo as it is Wayne. There was no surprise in their seasoning opening win over Canterbury, it was almost a given. But strides none the less are being made in coach Lacia Gorman’s program. The has fresh faces, fresh scorers and likely, a renewed enthusiasm. I’m going on a limb here and saying Gorman’s ability has this team ahead of where we all expected. Upset special: Bounce picks Wayne

Manchester at Warsaw, Wednesday

How about those Tigers. They inserted themselves into the conversation loudly last weekend besting Norwell. Now Brielle Harrison, Kaylee Patton and company are in the driver’s seat against anyone who challenges them. Bounce picks Warsaw

Bluffton at Bishop Dwenger, Thursday

The Tigers knew last week’s game with Winchester wasn’t an easy one to open the season. Now they test themselves hard again on the road at Bishop Dwenger, who will be on their second home game of the week. The Tigers’ tough fight against Winchester has to make them hopeful that they can battle in this one but they may just not have the size it takes to handle the rebounding effort and second chance points the Saints are likely to pile on. Bounce picks Bishop Dwenger

Bellmont at Woodlan, Friday

The Squaws will be a game in by this point so they will know more about themselves in the post Grace Hunter world; so will all of us. Woodlan, meanwhile, probably had themselves an interesting week of practice after a sloppy opener at Garrett that saw a not 100 percent Addison Bayman score a single point and them struggle shooting the ball. What has this week looked like? Bounce would be interested to see inside Gary Cobb’s practices. Bounce picks Bellmont

Norwell at West Noble, Friday

The Knights are going to make this trip on the front end of a challenging back to back. This is still one of the very best teams in the area and split two tough games last week. Key for the Knights is to not look ahead to Saturday’s big one at home because West Noble can catch teams this season. Bounce picks Norwell

Bishop Dwenger at Snider, Saturday

The Saints better have their legs under them for their third game of the week. Early SAC games are a challenge because teams are still looking for a firm foundation and one bad night could change the conference outlook immediately. Really looking forward to battles like Molly Ream versus Tamara Wade. Bounce picks Bishop Dwenger
