After weeks of voting, the field of the top 40 girls high school basketball players in the area has been narrowed down via multiple FAN VOTES. In the end, South Side senior Alaya Chapman has been voted by the readers of Outside The Huddle as the Preseason Player of the Year for the 2019-2020 season.
Chapman (Top 50 Girls Hoops: #11 Alaya Chapman) will be a key component in leading South Side (GIRLS HOOPS PREVIEW: #2 South Side Archers) into the new season and contention into the Summit Athletic Conference.
In the opening round of voting, Chapman was the the leading vote getter in the ‘Sydney Freeman’ Region with 1,616 votes. That allowed her to advance on to the quarterfinal round with he #6 seed overall of the top 8 vote recipients.
In the quarterfinal round, Chapman received 55.45 percent of the votes in the win over Prairie Heights’ Alexis German. In the semi final round, Chapman received 55.94 percent of the vote in beating Carroll’s Olivia Hoeppner.
Again in the final, Chapman had to face off against a Carroll opponent. The four day final vote picked up heavy votes as Chapman received 51.6 percent of over 48,000 final round votes to beat out Carroll’s Malia Williams.
In all three rounds, Chapman received 39,078 total votes. A grand total of just under 137,000 votes were cast for all recipients through the four rounds of voting.
