All-Northeast 8 Conference boys basketball teams named

The Northeast 8 Conference announced their boys basketball All-Conference teams on Monday in a release.

Conference champion East Noble unsurprisingly led the way with three players named First Team All-Conference with their three headed monster of Ali Ali, Brent Cox and Hayden Jones.

Joining them as All-NE8 First Team selections are Huntington North’s Zach Daugherty and Hank Pulver, Leo’s Blake Davison, Bellmont’s Kade Fuelling, Norwell’s Will Geiger, New Haven’s Donovynn Lewis and Columbia City’s Mitchell Wilson.

Just four members of the conference’s top team (Ali, Cox, Daugherty and Pulver) will graduate this year, with a wealth of talent returning to the NE8 next season.

The All-NE8 Second Team consists of East Noble’s Nate Dickson and Michael Bender, Huntington North’s Sawyer Stoltz and Trey Williams, Leo’s DJ Allen, Bellmont’s Aaron Lehrman, Norwell’s Conner Torson, New Haven’s Thomas Latham and DeKalb’s Caleb Nixon and Dalton Smith.

The Northeast 8 also names an All-Conference Honorable Mention group that consists of Leo’s Eric Steger, Bellmont’s Brady Manis, Norwell’s Levi Leidig, New Haven’s Deante Causey, Demarea Dial and Jamarr Hutchins and DeKalb’s Cole Richmond.

Five players maximum are nominated by each school with coaches then voting on the nominees with the top 10 getting first team, the next 10 getting second team and any players receiving vote from two or more schools getting honorable mention.

East Noble won the conference outright for the second season in a row, going 7-0 against NE8 competition on their run to a 21-4 finish overall. They were followed in the final regular season standings (in order) by Huntington North, Norwell, Bellmont, New Haven, Leo, Columbia City and DeKalb.

Huntington North used a memorable and crowd favorite postseason run to be the conference’s only Sectional champion.
