Blitz is starting to get the hang of this prognosticating thing, which means he needs to step up his game.
Last week’s 14-5 effort may look impressive, especially for an animal that usually specializes in sleeping and chasing clueless hikers. But Blitz is always striving for better.
Here is hoping that I deliver in Week 6.
Last week: 14-5
Overall: 28-10
CONCORDIA AT BISHOP DWENGER. The Cadets could not get on the scoreboard in a 27-0 loss to the Saints last year, the first time since 2012 that Concordia had been shut out. Bishop Dwenger has proven to have a stifling defense, a problem for a Cadets team that really struggled against Snider’s physical D. BLITZ PICKS DWENGER BY 14.
BISHOP LUERS AT NORTHROP. First to 60? Seriously, both these teams can score (the top two scoring teams in the SAC) and both of these teams can give up points. This game will come down to which team can get a defensive stop or two. BLITZ PICKS LUERS BY 2.
NORTH SIDE AT HOMESTEAD. Congratulations to the Legends, who ended a 20-game slide last week at Luersfield. While Homestead has had its defensive issues, it has not struggled as much as Luers. The Spartans’ offense needs a “back on track” week. This is it. BLITZ PICKS HOMESTEAD BY 18.
SNIDER AT WAYNE. 4-1 v. 4-1. The Panthers are in prime position to catch Dwenger for the SAC with a game looming against the Saints in Week 8. Meanwhile, Wayne needs some help from others with the tiebreaker going to Dwenger in head to head. Can Brandan Young make the plays against an improved Snider defensive front? That’s the key. BLITZ PICKS SNIDER BY 7.
SOUTH SIDE AT CARROLL. The Chargers are a better football team than what their 2-3 record indicates. The Vogt to Childers connection should have a big night. BLITZ PICKS CARROLL BY 40.
HUNTINGTON NORTH AT DEKALB. How about the Barons getting a big win at Columbia City last week? For Pete Kempf’s team to make it two straight, they are going to have to figure out how to combat that large Huntington offensive front anchored by Damon Kaylor. BLITZ PICKS DEKALB BY 7.
LEO AT BELLMONT. The Lions are another one of those teams that cannot be judged entirely by its record. A.J. Restivo seems to be finding his groove. Bad news for the Braves. BLITZ PICKS LEO BY 22.
NEW HAVEN AT COLUMBIA CITY. Could the Eagles perhaps have been looking ahead to this game instead of focusing on DeKalb last week? It’s possible. This game just feels weird to Blitz, like something crazy could happen. BLITZ PICKS COLUMBIA CITY BY 2.
NORWELL AT EAST NOBLE. Warsaw is proving to be one of the best teams in the NLC and the Knights lost to the 6A Tigers by just seven in Week 2. Perhaps we are underestimating just how good East Noble is? BLITZ PICKS EAST NOBLE BY 21.
ADAMS CENTRAL AT SOUTH ADAMS. Oops. Blitz whiffed on his pick of the Starfires’ game with Monroe Central last week. A 29-point ‘dog according to Blitz turned in a three-touchdown victory for SA. Can it happen again? BLITZ PICKS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 29.
BLUFFTON AT SOUTHERN WELLS. Everett Johnson continues to tear up opposing defenses on the ground for Bluffton, averaging 7.9 yards per touch entering Friday. He should have another field day this week. BLITZ PICKS BLUFFTON BY 37.
HERITAGE AT PARK TUDOR. Battle of 0-5 teams. Patriots need a win in the worst way. Blitz hopes it happens Friday. It should. Heritage is a more talented team. BLITZ PICKS HERITAGE BY 2.
WOODLAN AT JAY COUNTY. Next week begins a three-game stretch that will tell us just how good this Woodlan team is. Jay County can score points, but won’t score enough in this one. BLITZ PICKS WOODLAN BY 26.
CHURUBUSCO AT FREMONT. Lost in the Angola lovefest in the NECC is a ‘Busco team that is 5-0 and only given up 32 points so far this year. It is an easy road to 6-0. BLITZ PICKS CHURUBUSCO BY 40.
FAIRFIELD AT ANGOLA. Three years ago, the Falcons went 6-4 and beat Angola by 18 points and Churubusco by 31. In 2018, Fairfield has had to forfeit one game due to lack of healthy players and has scored just six points all year. BLITZ PICKS ANGOLA BY 52.
GARRETT AT WEST NOBLE. The Railroaders are getting better, evidenced by last week’s close loss to Eastside. Blitz wants to pick DePew and Co. in this one…he just can’t. BLITZ PICKS WEST NOBLE BY 8.
LAKELAND AT CENTRAL NOBLE. Three straight shutouts have the Cougars flying high entering Week 6. CN won’t shut out Lakeland, but it will improve to 5-1. BLITZ PICKS CENTRAL NOBLE BY 11.
PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT EASTSIDE. Too much Blazers. Not enough Panthers. BLITZ PICKS EASTSIDE by 26.
GOSHEN AT WARSAW. After a demolition of a solid Northridge team, Blitz is becoming a believer in the Warsaw Tigers under Bart Curtis. Goshen’s only W came against Fairfield. Tigers roll to their first 5-1 start since 2001. BLITZ PICKS WARSAW BY 33.
