The great thing about being a genius is that there is always more intellect in which to gain.
That’s where Blitz finds himself after another sensational week of picks. But with an undefeated week earlier this season, Mr. Furry (workshopping nicknames, just go with it) has eyes on achieving just that every Friday.
Greatness knows no limit. Blitz continues to aim higher.
Last week: 18-2 (.900)
Overall: 145-28 (.838)
CALUMET AT CONCORDIA. Calumet out of Gary sports a sophomore in Jaden Campbell who has thrown 17 touchdowns to just three INTs and a senior in Bryce Brandon who has rushed for 1,071 yards and 14 scores. Those are the two players Concordia must key on. The concerning aspect of this matchup is that the Cadets have held just one opponent this year under 26 points (Wayne). BLITZ SAYS CALUMET BY 13.
CARROLL AT BISHOP LUERS. With the Chargers eyeing a deep run in Class 6A and the Knights just trying not to lose more guys to injury on an already-thin roster, the goal of both of these teams on Friday is going to be to escape from Luersfield as healthy as they went in. Expect the backups to see significant time for Carroll if we see a running clock in the second half. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 30.
BISHOP DWENGER AT SOUTH SIDE. The Saints have beaten South 20-straight times, with the last loss coming in the playoffs way back in 2005. South Side has the talent at the skill positions to hang with Bishop Dwenger, but the dominance in the trenches by the Saints will be considerable. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 22.
NORTH SIDE AT SNIDER. The Legends dodged Carroll and Bishop Dwenger in the regular season this year, but now will face Snider to cap the regular season and Bishop Dwenger next week to open sectional play. This is a key game for both programs, each of which is coming off a loss. Penalties and turnovers. Who makes less mistakes on Friday at ‘The Ike?’ BLITZ SAYS SNIDER BY 3.
NORTHROP AT WAYNE. Are the Bruins ripe for an upset? Three straight losses, indecisiveness on who is QB1 and a Wayne team that is just talented enough to make this a game if Northrop isn’t locked in. Wayne played perhaps its worst game of the season last week against Bishop Luers. Does the defense bounce back and put up a fight? The Bruins really need this one heading into their playoff bye. BLITZ SAYS NORTHROP BY 20.
COLUMBIA CITY AT NORWELL. At first glance, this is an easy pick. But then you remember that Norwell knocked off Huntington North last week, a team Columbia City beat by just three way back in Week 4. Score comparisons are for the weak though, and Blitz is not weak when it comes to prognostications. The Eagles’ strength along the front lines will be too much. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 16.
DEKALB AT LEO. There is no such thing as a ‘must win’ unless you are truly facing elimination, but after a thrashing at the hands of Columbia City last week, the same foes it faces next week, Leo could use a boost. DeKalb isn’t as dominant up front as CC is, which was one of the big reasons for the Lions’ struggles against the Eagles. Remember, the Barons won this showdown last year. BLITZ SAYS DEKALB BY 2.
EAST NOBLE AT BELLMONT. Way back in 2014, Bellmont capped a 5-4 regular season with a 24-21 victory over the Knights. It stands as the last time the Braves knocked off East Noble. That was fun. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 48.
NEW HAVEN AT HUNTINGTON NORTH. Over the last three weeks, New Haven QB Tre McCraney has thrown for 1,212 yards and 12 touchdowns. If he continues his torrid play this Friday, the Bulldogs have a chance to hang around. But Huntington North needs a win in the worst way after dropping a home game to Norwell last week. BLITZ SAYS HUNTINGTON NORTH BY 21.
ADAMS CENTRAL AT WOODLAN. The Flying Jets have not lost consecutive regular-season games since 2017. They have not lost two ACAC games in a row in 13 years. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 21.
BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT BLUFTON. After an emotional victory last week, it would not be surprising to see the Tigers come out a little flat on Friday. While they can afford it against Blackhawk Christian, you can bet it will not be tolerated by Coach Brent Kunkel if it happens. Bluffton last went undefeated in the regular season in 1982. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 34.
JAY COUNTY AT HERITAGE. Coach Jeremy Hullinger’s team has not gotten a lot of attention at 5-3, but it has been a problem in games with the top squads in the ACAC. For this one, Heritage will need to slow down Leighton Brown, who is at 1,374 yards rushing and counting on the year. Even if he is able to run amok, Heritage should be able to prevail with its own running game. BLITZ SAYS HERITAGE BY 8.
SOUTH ADAMS AT SOUTHERN WELLS. At this rate, Coach Grant Moser could earn his 100th career victory if South Adams is able to win a sectional championship. But first things first, getting dub No. 97 in Poneto. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 37.
CENTRAL NOBLE AT GARRETT. The Railroaders are 2-0 this season when they score exactly 49 points and 0-6 in games in which they do not. BLITZ SAYS WHO KNOWS WHAT THE WINNING MARGIN WILL BE BUT GARRETT WILL SCORE 49 AND WIN.
CHURUBUSCO AT LAKELAND. Both of these teams have played a lot of youngsters this year. Expect to see both of them further up the standings of the NECC in 2027. BLITZ SAYS LAKELAND BY 6.
EASTSIDE AT ANGOLA. A fun matchup to cap the regular season north of Fort Wayne. Angola was really able to slow the West Noble offense down last week, but still lost in a 14-7 result. Not only do the Hornets have to play even better defense this week, it needs to find a way to score enough points against an underrated defense in which a lot of its points allowed during the NECC season have come in garbage time. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 18.
FREMONT AT FAIRFIELD. Another interesting matchup in Week 9. Miguel Gutierrez has been unstoppable for Fairfield in rushing for over 1,500 yards this year. Meanwhile, Jaret Laughlin has been a beast behind center for Fremont. What gives on Friday? BLITZ SAYS FAIRFIELD BY 4.
PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT WEST NOBLE. Xy’mire Barnes-Bridges needs 152 rushing yards to reach 1,000 on the season for the Chargers. He can definitely reach those heights against…Heights. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 33.
WARSAW AT NORTHRIDGE. A battle of undefeateds for the Northern Lakes Conference crown. Each team knows what the other wants to do and how to stop it, or at least how to TRY and stop it. Does Warsaw run all over the Raiders? Can Northridge shred the Tigers defense with its aerial attack? Contrasting styles collide in one of the high-profile showdowns in the entire state this week. Warsaw has not gone 9-0 since 2001. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 1.
