Last week saw Blitz miss some key games, games that you, the reader, could on Blitz to pick correct.
You have his sincere apologies.
New week, new picks and more dubs than last week.
That’s a Blitz promise.
Last week: 16-4 (.800)
Overall: 127-26 (.830)
CONCORDIA AT SOUTH SIDE. Three weeks ago, the Archers were sitting at 2-2 and there was thought that South could flirt with a record around .500 in the regular season, but three-straight losses have dashed those chances. Coach Andre Goodwell’s team has battled, but has fallen short in recent games against Wayne and North Side. This is one the Archers desperately need. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH SIDE BY 8.
BISHOP DWENGER AT SNIDER. So many huge games between these two over the years. This one doesn’t have the vibes of a true heavyweight bout, but the Panthers have not lost consecutive games to the Saints since 2019-2020. Can Snider’s defense prevent Bishop Dwenger from dictating the game in the trenches and with its running game? That will be the difference at ‘The Ike.’ BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 7.
BISHOP LUERS AT WAYNE. The last time the Generals knocked off Bishop Luers? 2018 when Coach Derrick Moore led Wayne to a 9-3 campaign. Both teams are beat up. What’s the status of injured star Javontae Eldridge for the Generals? These two squads are both pretty beat up. The Knights will look to lean on TJ Epperson to have a night running the football, as they have all year. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP LUERS BY 13.
NORTHROP AT CARROLL. This was shaping up to be a huge showdown before the Bruins laid an egg against Snider last week. Northrop has been outscored 59-13 in the last two weeks in losses to the Panthers and Bishop Dwenger. Carroll hasn’t been slowed down yet by an SAC defense. It won’t on Friday, either. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 23.
HOMESTEAD AT NORTH SIDE. Perhaps the most intriguing game in the SAC in Week 8. North has quietly won four-straight games and is 5-1 under interim coach Jaylon Smith. Homestead is headed in the other direction, losers of four straight with Warren Central looming in Week 9. The Legends need to make sure they do not shoot themselves in the foot with too many penalties. And Logan Frieden has been a one-man wrecking crew for Sparty at QB. A Chad Zolman-coached team has never lost five games in a row. BLITZ SAYS HOMESTEAD BY 3.
BELLMONT AT DEKALB. The Barons are 4-3, with all three defeats coming by four points or less. Look past DeKalb at your own risk in Sectional 19. BLITZ SAYS DEKALB BY 34.
EAST NOBLE AT NEW HAVEN. Six of East Noble’s first seven opponents currently have winning records. The one that doesn’t, Norwell, is 3-4. The Knights made it through the gauntlet and now have New Haven and Bellmont on the road to close out the regular season. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 30.
LEO AT COLUMBIA CITY. Leo’s defense continues to be one of the more underappreciated units in the area. Senior Kaden Doll has been exceptional up front and is just one of several talented players up front for the Lions. They will be tested in a big way by Columbia City’s bruising offensive front and exceptional running game. This one should be tight throughout. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 2.
NORWELL AT HUNTINGTON NORTH. Last week was the first this season in which Huntington North did not score 28 or more points in a game (just six points against Leo). The Vikings will get the offense fired back up in just its third home game of the season. BLITZ SAYS HUNTINGTON NORTH BY 21.
BLUFFTON AT ADAMS CENTRAL. The last time Bluffton knocked off Adams Central was 2009, when Coach Nick Nicholas’s team edged the Flying Jets, 21-19. The last time Bluffton beat AC in Monroe? Way back in 1998. So to say the Tigers are due is an understatement. This one comes down to Coach Brent Kunkel’s defense, which has allowed 35 or more points to Adams Central in each of the last four meetings. Limit AC’s ability to control the game and Bluffton wins. Simple, right? Not when you have lost 17 in a row in the series. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 6.
LAPEL AT JAY COUNTY. Lapel junior Max Lockhart has thrown for 1,469 yards and 19 touchdowns with just one interception this season to lead the Bulldogs to a 43.1 points per game scoring average. Jay County has had trouble with teams with good offenses. Not a good combination. BLITZ SAYS LAPEL BY 25.
SOUTHERN WELLS AT HERITAGE. The Patriots have allowed just 14 points combined in the last three meetings with Southern Wells. The defense should be stiff again on Friday in Monroeville. BLITZ SAYS HERITAGE BY 31.
WOODLAN AT SOUTH ADAMS. Despite all the passing accolades, the Starfires are averaging only 65 yards per game on the ground. Having Will Patterson back healthy should help make the offense more balanced down the stretch and into the playoffs. The senior is averaging 6.1 yards per rush and this could be a break-out game for him. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 20.
FAIRFIELD AT CHURUBUSCO. A rushing attack averaging nearly 300 yards per game against a team that is allowing over 35 points per game? Not a good combination for ‘busco. Fairfield senior Miguel Gutierrez needs 45 yards to eclipse 1,000 on the season. BLITZ SAYS FAIRFIELD BY 22.
FREMONT AT CENTRAL NOBLE. Fremont has not secured back-to-back winning regular seasons since 1997-1998. A win on Friday clinches Coach Trevor Thomas and the Eagles just that. BLITZ SAYS FREMONT BY 29.
LAKELAND AT GARRETT. Behind Aiden Reed, the Railroaders have a shot at back-to-back victories to end the regular season, first against the Lakers on Friday and Center Noble in Week 9. Reed is averaging seven yards a carry with seven touchdowns, a bright spot for Garrett in a season that has just one victory so far. BLITZ SAYS GARRETT BY 3.
PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT EASTSIDE. The Panthers were able to earn their first win of the season last week. The reward? Going to Butler for a game against undefeated Eastside. Well, last week was fun. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 41.
WEST NOBLE AT ANGOLA. A showdown for the Big Division of the NECC. The junior class for Angola has been key to its 6-1 start, with those from that class on defense not getting much love. But that is where this game will be won. Can the Hornets bottle up a run game averaging 261 yards per game? The one-two punch of Jackson Christlieb and Xy’mire Barnes-Bridgeshas combined for 20 rushing scores. Angola has what it takes. BLITZ SAYS ANGOLA BY 2.
TOLEDO START (OH) VS. BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT CONCORDIA. Toledo Start is 3-4 and are the Spartans. And that is all the research that Blitz did on them. BLITZ SAYS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN BY 5.
WARSAW AT CONCORD. A year ago, half of Warsaw’s four losses came against Concord. The Tigers get revenge and set up a huge showdown with undefeated Northridge next week. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 21.
