WEEK 7: Blitz’s Picks

Three weeks. Four losses.

Blitz is on a roll.

Is another exceptional week of prognostications on tap for Week 7?

Last week: 17-2 (.894)
Overall: 111-22 (.834)

CARROLL AT HOMESTEAD. A season ago, Carroll handed the Spartans a 49-0 drubbing, the most-lopsided game in history between the rivals. Homestead has revenge on its mind, but can it get the defensive stops necessary to keep this one close? It won’t be 49-0, but Carroll still wins this one comfortably. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 22.

BISHOP LUERS AT BISHOP DWENGER. Most years, this rivalry pits two teams primed to make long postseason runs. This season, the Saints are the lone squad that looks the part. Bishop Luers has scored seven points combined in the last two meetings, both Dwenger victories. Another stifling defensive effort from the Saints will make it three-straight dubs in the “Battle of the Bishops.” BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 16.

SNIDER AT NORTHROP. The Bruins ended their long losing streak to the Panthers last year with not one, but two victories over their nemesis. Northrop is stinging after being pushed around by Bishop Dwenger last week. Does it take its frustrations out on its rival? The concern for Snider is that its defense has had trouble against prolific offenses. If Northrop can air it out and pick up chunk plays, the Panthers will have trouble keeping up. BLITZ SAYS NORTHROP BY 3.

SOUTH SIDE AT NORTH SIDE. Totem Pole Game No. 101 for those counting. The Legends have conquered their rival in eight-straight matchups, the longest streak for North in the series’ history dating back to 1927. But there is opportunity here for South. The Legends will play their first game without Maalik Moore, out for the rest of the season due to injury. And North Side has yet to figure out how to cut down on the penalties. The Archers have lost two in a row and their starting QB is out for the year. Go with the Legends to make it nine straight. BLITZ SAYS NORTH SIDE BY 8.

WAYNE AT CONCORDIA. Games like this always flip on a big play or a key turnover. Concordia’s offense, particularly the connection between QB Eli Trent and WR Mike Henley, has had its moments this year. But two weeks ago against South Side, Wayne’s defense and special teams were the difference in picking up a win. Blitz is going with the same recipe of success in a back-and-forth game. BLITZ SAYS WAYNE BY 2.

BELLMONT AT NEW HAVEN. The Braves came close to ending their long losing streak in Week 1 at Madison-Grant, might it officially come to a stop at New Haven? There is some hope that it could, with the Bulldogs really struggling outside of the victory at Norwell in Week 5. But Tre McCraney can sling it all over the field when given time to do so, and the senior quarterback will be difficult for Bellmont to contain. BLITZ SAYS NEW HAVEN BY 11.

COLUMBIA CITY AT EAST NOBLE. Perhaps the last “big one” in the NE8 this season. This one comes down to East Noble’s defense against Columbia City’s physical and punishing rushing attack. The Knights took away the ability of DeKalb and Leo to put points on the board in close victories this year. Can they do the same against the Eagles? Depending on which side you are on, East Noble has either found ways to escape against teams, or showcased the mark of a good team by finding ways to win. Speaking of finding a way, Columbia City does just that. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 1.

DEKALB AT NORWELL. Three close losses to conference foes in consecutive weeks has the Barons desperately needing a get-right week. It comes on Friday on the road. BLITZ SAYS DEKALB BY 23.

HUNTINGTON NORTH AT LEO. Leo’s defense is underrated, but it will be challenged by the likes of Lathen Janes, CJ Jemison and a Huntington North offense putting up 36 points per game. The Lions will not want to get into a shootout in this one. BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 4.

HERITAGE AT BLUFFTON. One week before an epic showdown with Adams Central, the Tigers will look to stay focused and take care of business against Heritage. Remember, the Patriots gave both South Adams and Adams Central fits in mid-September. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 16.

SOUTH ADAMS AT JAY COUNTY. A letdown game one week after knocking off Adams Central? That is what South Adams coach Grant Moser is guarding against. While Leighton Brown has run roughshod over teams most of the season, the Patriots struggled to score against Adams Central and Bluffton with a combined seven points in lopsided losses. The Starfires also have just too much firepower. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 21.

SOUTHERN WELLS AT ADAMS CENTRAL. Sandwiched in between games with South Adams and Bluffton for the Flying Jets is Southern Wells. After losing last week, AC is out to take its frustrations out on someone. That someone are the Raiders. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 37.

WOODLAN AT TIPPECANOE VALLEY. The Vikings’ lone loss this year so far was Adams Central in Week 3. Powered by a balanced rushing attack, Tippy Valley will give Woodlan’s defense fits. BLITZ SAYS TIPPECANOE VALLEY BY 18.

ANGOLA AT FREMONT. The schedule toughens up for the Hornets beginning this week, with visits from West Noble and Eastside in the weeks ahead. This one is highlighted by Fremont QB Jaret Laughlin against a stingy Angola defense. The Eagles have not beaten Angola since 2012. BLITZ SAYS ANGOLA BY 2.

CENTRAL NOBLE AT PRAIRIE HEIGHTS. The Panthers have lost games by two, four and five points this year. They are still fighting and competing. They deserve to get their first dub of the season. BLITZ SAYS PRAIRIE HEIGHTS BY 6.

EASTSIDE AT CHURUBUSCO. At the very least, the youngsters all over the field for the Eagles will want to get revenge on the Blazers in the next few years for this one. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 34.

GARRETT AT FAIRFIELD. With Alex Guzman out for the rest of the year, it robs the Railroaders of one of their few proven playmakers. That is trouble against a team that battled hard against Eastside and West Noble the last two weeks. BLITZ SAYS FAIRFIELD BY 28.

WEST NOBLE AT LAKELAND. Twenty-nine of West Noble’s 30 touchdowns this season have been scored by underclassmen. Sectional 26 with the likes of the Chargers, Angola and Tippecanoe Valley is going to be very interesting. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 23.

MONROE CENTRAL VS. BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT WOODLAN. The Golden Bears are playing their first game since the tragic passing of Charli Siekmann, younger sister of football player Carson Siekmann. BLITZ SAYS MONROE CENTRAL BY 16.

PLYMOUTH AT WARSAW. Plymouth is winless in the Northern Lakes Conference, while Warsaw is undefeated and eyeing a league title. No upset on this night. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 35.
