Sometimes you’re lucky and sometimes you’re good.
Or you are Blitz and you’re always good.
An undefeated week last week. 20-0. Wow, you folks are truly lucky to be in the presence of greatness.
Allow Blitz to bestow upon you more wisps of genius for Week 5.
Last week: 20-0 (1.000)
Overall: 76-18 (.808)
CONCORDIA AT NORTHROP. The Bruins have Bishop Dwenger, Snider and Carroll coming in Weeks 6-8, meaning this is the last tune-up before a killer three-week stretch. Meanwhile, Concordia’s schedule lets up considerably after this week. Could the Cadets pick up a few more wins before the end of the season? It will have to start in Week 6. BLITZ SAYS NORTHROP BY 32.
BISHOP DWENGER AT HOMESTEAD. Bishop Dwenger was definitely stinging after last week’s home loss to Carroll, where the Saints gave up the most points (49) in an SAC game since 2012. Logan Frieden has been piling up yards for the Spartans on the ground and through the air, giving Bishop Dwenger the challenge of corralling a dual-threat quarterback. Blitz expects a bounce-back game for the Saints on the road this Friday. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 12.
BISHOP LUERS AT NORTH SIDE. For those wondering, Bishop Luers’ last 0-4 start was back in 2013, Coach Kyle Lindsay’s first season at the helm of the program. That squad went winless in the regular season. North Side is looking for its first winning streak of the year. Is there anyone on the Knights who can stay with Maalik Moore? Could be a big night for the senior. BLITZ SAYS NORTH SIDE BY 20.
SNIDER AT CARROLL. Former Snider offensive coordinator and current Carroll head coach Doug Dinan’s team has won three straight in the series, all by double digits. The Panthers have been able to get some momentum in the last few games, but they struggled in the opening two weeks against Warsaw and East Noble, both of which have physical offenses that can pile up yardage. Carroll does it in a different way, but the question remains – can Snider limit an opposing offense adept at putting up points? BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 17.
WAYNE AT SOUTH SIDE. Coach Darrion White’s goal with the Generals is to make the progress that Coach Andre Goodwell has with his Archers. It is a multi-year process that stresses patience and commitment. Coach White will get there. But can his defense contain Jayvon Irby, who is averaging close to 200 all-purpose yards a game? BLITZ SAYS SOUTH SIDE BY 14.
BELLMONT AT HUNTINGTON NORTH. The Vikings are averaging close to 35 points per game. That’s good. They are allowing close to 28 points per game. That’s bad. Huntington North should end its two-game losing streak this week, but it has DeKalb, Leo and Norwell in consecutive weeks coming up. The defense must improve and fast. BLITZ SAYS HUNTINGTON NORTH BY 31.
COLUMBIA CITY AT DEKALB. What is the status of DeKalb quarterback Bracen Staley? That is one of the determining factors on which direction Blitz is leaning here. With Staley, the Barons have shown a better ability to move the ball and put up points. On the other side, putting up points hasn’t been a problem for the Eagles, who are still averaging over 400 yards per game on the ground for the season. BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 6.
EAST NOBLE AT LEO. Another week, another big challenge for East Noble, which has answered the call each Friday so far with four-straight dubs. Leo has looked really good outside of Week 2, but the quality of opponent has left something to be desired. The Lions have a lot of youth on the field on both sides of the ball. While talented, the advantage of experience is firmly with the Knights. That will be the difference here. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 8.
NEW HAVEN AT NORWELL. The opening four games for the Bulldogs haven’t been easy, but the amount of points being allowed, over 31 per game, is concerning. If Norwell comes out sharp and doesn’t turn the ball over, it should have a big night offensively. BLITZ SAYS NORWELL BY 26.
ADAMS CENTRAL AT HERITAGE. The last time the Patriots knocked off the Flying Jets was way back in 2014, which was also the last time AC had a losing record. So, it has been awhile for both. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 22.
BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN AT SOUTH ADAMS. Expect some big numbers from the likes of Zaden Baumer, Wes Summersett, Jax Wanner and the rest of the Starfires offense. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 34.
JAY COUNTY AT BLUFFTON. Interesting Blitz stat of the day. Bluffton has scored 35 or more points in 12 of its last 14 games dating back to last season. The only two times it did not reach 35 was against Adams Central. Take the Tigers to score over 35 points again this week against the Patriots. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 35.
SOUTHERN WELLS AT WOODLAN. Southern Wells surprised a lot of people last year when they beat Woodlan handily in Week 5. Here’s thinking that the Warriors have not forgotten. BLITZ SAYS WOODLAN BY 18.
CENTRAL NOBLE AT LAKELAND. The Lakers have won four straight in the series. Make it five. BLITZ SAYS LAKELAND BY 11.
CHURUBUSCO AT ANGOLA. Senior Brayden Gruner has a dozen receptions for Angola through the first four games, four of which have gone for touchdowns. He is averaging close to 20 yards per reception. He and quarterback Garrett Sorgen should have another big night against the Eagles. BLITZ SAYS ANGOLA BY 15.
EASTSIDE AT FAIRFIELD. Can the Falcons slow down an Eastside offense scoring 42 points per game? Sure. But, will they? Blitz doesn’t think so. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 33.
FREMONT AT WEST NOBLE. While not as prolific of an offense as Eastside, West Noble has shown that it can maul and dominate their foes. That is bad news for Fremont, which didn’t have much of an answer for the Blazers last week. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 22.
PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT GARRETT. A battle of 0-4 teams. By the rules of football, someone will get their first win of the season. Another big night on tap for Railroaders running back Aiden Reed. BLITZ SAYS GARRETT BY 17.
WARSAW AT WAWASEE. The battle for the ‘W’ trophy, a rivalry that has seen Warsaw win 11 straight games. Make it 12, as Wawasee will struggle to contain the Tigers’ rushing game. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 32.
