Here we are. Time to hand out some hardware.
At the beginning of the season, every team’s goal is to win a sectional championship. Yes, conference crowns are nice, but they don’t come with long-lasting hardware. A sectional trophy is forever, and every team, no matter if they have 30 program sectional titles or zero, longs to raise one in early November.
Who will claim titles on Friday? Blitz gives his picks.
Last week: 13-2 (.866)
Overall: 187-45 (.806)
NORTHROP AT CARROLL. When these two teams met in the regular season, it was a high-powered matchup with a combined 85 points. Should we expect another shootout or more of a slugfest? With these offenses, points are definitely gonna be put up. Did Northrop’s close call with Snider wake the Bruins up or show their vulnerabilities? Carroll has looked like a machine since losing to Bishop Dwenger in Week 4. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 9.
CONCORD AT NORTH SIDE. Much like Northrop, North Side is in the midst of a long sectional drought – 35 years without a title. It has been seven years for Concord, which has averaged 39 points per game, including five straight in which it has scored 42 or more. The Legends need a fast start, something they didn’t have against Goshen last week. North Side has the personnel. Can it execute and steal a sectional crown from the favorite at Chambers Field? BLITZ SAYS CONCORD BY 11.
EAST NOBLE AT BISHOP DWENGER. The Knights are 3-0 against SAC opponents this year, including an escape against South Side last week. The combined record of those three? 6-25. Now, East Noble faces the SAC champion on the road with the best defense in the area arrayed against it. Rylee Biddle has been a miracle worker in his starting career with the Knights. Can he work another miracle against the Saints? BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 9.
GARRETT AT ANGOLA. At this point, bet against the Hornets in general, and Hawk Hasselman in particular, at your own risk. Angola has won two playoff games in consecutive weeks as the underdog. Now, it is the favorite against a team that it has already beaten this season. The playoffs are for Cinderella stories. Angola has taken center stage. BLITZ SAYS ANGOLA BY 6.
BISHOP LUERS AT MISSISSINEWA. While we saw flashes of it in the regular season, Bishop Luers’ defensive front is on another level compared to most opponents in Class 3A. That unit will need to lead the way for the Knights against a run-heavy attack that has 35 rushing scores this year. These two went toe-to-toe in the playoffs last year in a close Luers win at home. Ole Miss returns the favor in Gas City. BLITZ SAYS MISSISSINEWA BY 6.
EASTSIDE AT ADAMS CENTRAL. Can the Blazers force Adams Central into some uncharacteristic mistakes? Or, do the Flying Jets make some miscues on their own? That has to happen for Eastside to have a chance in this one. Job Richman needs to have the game of his life for the Blazers, and even then they may need some luck against the AC juggernaut. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 20.
NORTH MIAMI AT FREMONT. Both teams are fueled by their rushing attack, meaning possessions could be at a premium if both are able to move the ball on the ground. Last week, Fremont beat Triton, which knocked off North Miami in Week 9. Fremont at home looking for its first-ever postseason championship? How can Blitz go against that? BLITZ SAYS FREMONT BY 2.
HAGERSTOWN AT SOUTH ADAMS. Of all of the area sectional title matchups this week, this one feels the most lopsided. The Starfires have won five in a row and the offense has been absolutely dominant. Hagerstown has trouble slowing down opposing offenses, and South Adams will be its biggest test yet. Not ideal for the Tigers. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 27.
