This may be Blitz’s favorite week of games all year long.
Sectional semifinals. All six classes in action. It really starts ramping up the pressure of the postseason.
And you know the higher the pressure situation, the more Blitz performs.
So, let’s get to the picks.
Last week: 15-4 (.789)
Overall: 174-43 (.800)
CARROLL AT ELKHART. These two teams saw each other in the summer in scrimmage action, so there is familiarity. Elkhart QB Micah Jarrell is a dual threat and will challenge the Chargers defense. But can Elkhart’s defense get enough stops? Remember, this is Gabe Frisinger’s first playoff start at QB1 for Carroll. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 10.
SNIDER AT NORTHROP. There is a lot of buzz around this game in terms of if Snider can avenge the regular-season loss to the Bruins. It is true that the Panthers have some momentum after beating North Side in Week 9, and Snider has found ways to move the ball more regularly. The problem is, Northrop still has the likes of Jerquaden Guilford and Maddox Weil, who were darn near unstoppable in the first game between the two. BLITZ SAYS NORTHROP BY 13.
HAMILTON SOUTHEASTERN AT HOMESTEAD. Back-to-back shutouts to end the regular season have the Spartans feeling good entering the playoffs. But HSE is a different challenge altogether, defensively in particular. The key to Homestead hanging around is what the offense, namely quarterback Logan Frieden, can do against a good 6A foe. If the right Homestead team shows up, it can win this. BLITZ SAYS HOMESTEAD BY 2.
WARSAW AT CONCORD. A season ago, Warsaw avenged a regular-season loss to Concord to win a sectional championship on its way to the 5A state title game. Don’t expect a repeat this time, as the Minutemen have been eyeing this rematch for quite some time. BLITZ SAYS CONCORD BY 16.
NORTH SIDE AT GOSHEN. The Legends need a get-right game in the worst way. There is no question that North Side is the heavy favorite, but where is its mindset after two-straight losses in surprising fashion and an off week? An easy dub would be a good indicator that Coach Ben Johnson’s team is back on track. BLITZ SAYS NORTH SIDE BY 21.
SOUTH SIDE AT EAST NOBLE. Can Chris Mhoon and the Archers offense put some points on the board against the Knights? Potentially. Can the South Side defense get enough stops to keep this one competitive? That is where Blitz isn’t so sure. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 37.
COLUMBIA CITY AT BISHOP DWENGER. Kudos to the Eagles, who pulled off one of the surprises of Week 10 by knocking off DeKalb. Their reward? Heading to Shields Field to take on what is likely the best defense in the entire area. Bishop Dwenger made mincemeat of one NE8 foe last week in Leo. Does it do it again this week? BLITZ SAYS BISHOP DWENGER BY 23.
LAKELAND AT GARRETT. The Railroaders have come alive of late, winners of three of their last four. They handled Lakeland on the road in Week 4. Anything can happen in the playoffs, but Garrett seems locked in at this point. BLITZ SAYS GARRETT BY 13.
ANGOLA AT WEST NOBLE. Another rematch from the regular season, the Hornets get another shot at the a team they lost to by 14 in Week 4. Coach Andy Thomas’ team is playing its best football of the season, and the win over Tippecanoe Valley definitely put some awareness into the Chargers to not take the Hornets lightly. Can Hawk Hasselman have another huge game? He can, but it won’t be enough. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 8.
MISSISSINEWA AT JAY COUNTY. The Patriots have looked better of late, but one thing hasn’t change, their struggles to slow down good offenses. Mississinewa averages over 31 points per game. Not ideal. BLITZ SAYS MISSISSINEWA BY 29.
NORWELL AT BISHOP LUERS. There’s a lot of promise coming up for the Knights, and starting a freshman quarterback will surely pay some dividends down the road. But not this week. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP LUERS BY 21.
MANCHESTER AT EASTSIDE. Sophomore Noah Dove has had a breakout season for the Blazers, rushing for 765 yards and 11 touchdowns. He should have another big night in this one along with QB Job Richman. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 14.
ADAMS CENTRAL AT BLUFFTON. Last time the Tigers got undefeated Adams Central at home, they lost by 30. Bluffton needs to play a near-perfect game tonight, and even then it may not be enough. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 14.
TRITON AT FREMONT. A battle of 7-3 teams. Could Fremont get to a sectional title game for the first time since 2001? The Eagles must contain Jayden Overmyer, who has rushed for 1,627 yards and 18 touchdowns this year. BLITZ SAYS TRITON BY 11.
SOUTH ADAMS AT TRI. The Titans of Tri have had a successful season so far, but can they contain the South Adams offense enough to stay in this one? The Starfires will need to make some miscues. Blitz isn’t counting on that. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 20.
