Week 1 is always the most difficult for picks, but hey, Blitz is a self-proclaimed expert, right?
So he needs to be better than hitting on 70 percent of his selections. You read this column for expertise, not amateur hour.
Let’s tackle Week 2, where Blitz promises to deliver.
Last week: 19-8 (.703)
CENTER GROVE AT CARROLL. While the defense of the Chargers acquitted themselves well last week at Hamilton Southeastern, the offense struggled to get any traction. That doesn’t bode well this week against a Trojans squad that allowed just six points to Warren Central in Week 1. BLITZ SAYS CENTER GROVE BY 14.
EASTBROOK AT CONCORDIA. Quarterback Eli Trent had himself a night last week against Scecina, accounting for over 200 total yards. The question is if Trent can have the success he had on the ground against a very stingy and physical Eastbrook defense. This has become a fun game in recent years in Week 2. BLITZ SAYS EASTBROOK BY 9.
SNIDER AT EAST NOBLE. There has been some talk after last week that Snider got exposed in allowing over 400 yards rushing to Warsaw. Look, it’s Warsaw. Special circumstances with that offense. But if the Panthers can’t slow down East Noble’s offense that put up 373 total yards last week against Wayne? Alarm bells would surely sound off Reed Road. East Noble is 0-for-2 against Snider in the last two years. Third time a charm? BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 2.
WAYNE AT SOUTH BEND RILEY. Can the Generals get on the scoreboard this week? Riley pitched a shutout at Hammond Noll to begin the season. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH BEND RILEY BY 29.
HOMESTEAD AT NOBLESVILLE. There are some injury concerns around Homestead as it hits the road again down to central Indiana. While the defense has to be better, the Spartans will not face a defensive front as good as Westfield’s the rest of the season. BLITZ SAYS NOBLESVILLE BY 30.
HUNTINGTON NORTH AT NORTHROP. The Bruins have been the darling of social media over the past week after a pasting of New Haven. This matchup was fun a year ago in Huntington, but now at Spuller Stadium, Northrop should shine. Another impressive performance by the Bruins defense will really get Blitz’s attention. BLITZ SAYS NORTHROP BY 12.
NEW HAVEN AT NORTH SIDE. These two programs barely eight miles apart have never played each other, until now. While the Bulldogs are still in rebuild mode, North Side is eyeing big things after a solid win over Northridge in Week 1. Another big night for Jaydin Rivers, Maalik Moore and others. BLITZ SAYS NORTH SIDE BY 28.
SOUTH BEND ST. JOSEPH AT SOUTH SIDE. Two years ago, the Archers lost to St. Joseph by 38 points. Last year, it was an 11-point defeat. A close one at Marion got away last week. Won’t be the case in Week 2 for South. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH SIDE BY 2.
ST. FRANCIS DE SALES (OH) AT BISHOP DWENGER. A fun Week 2 matchup for the Saints. St. Francis de Sales comes over from Toledo with plenty of talent, including Rutgers commit Jermaine Polk on the defensive line and Michigan verbal Jonathan Brown at running back. The Dwenger offense struggled with turnovers last week, but the defense looked solid even without Houston Ellinger, who was out with injury. Win or lose, this will be a learning experience for Coach Jason Garrett’s squad. BLITZ SAYS ST. FRANCIS DE SALES BY 17.
BISHOP LUERS AT ANDREAN. What stood out to Blitz in Week 1 about the Knights was the lack of explosiveness on offense. It will come, but with the amount of youngsters in high-profile spots, it is going to take awhile. Andrean is also coming off a loss, but fell at Merrillville, one of the best teams in Class 5A. Tough Saturday road trip for Bishop Luers. BLITZ SAYS ANDREAN BY 14.
ANGOLA AT LEO. Both teams picked up efficient wins in Week 1. Angola’s road victory at DeKalb went largely unnoticed, but the last time the Hornets started the season off with a win, they won six games in 2022. Another big night in store for Nathan Foster for the Lions. BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 15.
BELLMONT AT SOUTH ADAMS. Pay no mind to last week’s result for the Starfires, who had to weather the storm of playing at Ohio small-class superpower Marion Local in Week 1. Going from a program that has won 64-straight games to one that has lost 33 in a row is quite the difference in opponents. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 44.
DEKALB AT GARRETT. Two teams that couldn’t find much offense in Week 1, combining for six points, all by the Barons. Garrett averaged just 1.8 yards per rush against Adams Central last week. That average should rise considerably on Friday. BLITZ SAYS GARRETT BY 13.
NORWELL AT OAK HILL. Can the Knights contain an Oak Hill rushing attack that found plenty of running room in a close Week 1 loss to Eastern? Containing the run was a problem against Mississinewa for Norwell. BLITZ SAYS OAK HILL BY 22.
PLYMOUTH AT COLUMBIA CITY. The Eagles have controlled this game the last few years, and nothing is coming to Blitz’s mind on why that won’t continue. Feed Trace Parrish! BLITZ SAYS COLUMBIA CITY BY 27.
ADAMS CENTRAL AT EASTSIDE. This one could be spicy in Butler. Since Eastside knocked off the Flying Jets in 2021, AC has won the last four, including twice last season. Will Adams Central be at full strength with missing Hayden Bluhm and Nate Geerken in Week 1? Will it matter? BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 13.
CENTRAL NOBLE AT WOODLAN. The offense of the Warriors gained just 97 yards of total offense last week against Eastside. It shouldn’t have any problem moving the ball against Central Noble. BLITZ SAYS WOODLAN BY 16.
DELTA AT HERITAGE. First real gauge of where Heritage is at. Coach Jeremy Hullinger’s sophomore class is going to be really, really good the next few years, but they won’t be enough on Friday. BLITZ SAYS DELTA BY 8.
BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN VS. SOUTHERN WELLS. The locale will be fun for kids and fans alike – Taylor University. Could Southern Wells end its 20-game losing streak? BLITZ SAYS SOUTHERN WELLS BY 1.
MANCHESTER AT BLUFFTON. These two teams have met every year in Week 2 since 2007. Manchester doesn’t have a win in the series since 2009. So there’s that to consider. Manchester QB Dallas Martin can sling it. BLITZ SAYS BLUFFTON BY 13.
JAY COUNTY AT NEW CASTLE. Another Saturday game on the slate. The Patriots are off to a 1-0 start, but New Castle is a considerable step up in competition from Blackford. BLITZ SAYS NEW CASTLE BY 21.
CHURUBUSCO AT LAKELAND. Lopsided losses to the Lakers the last few seasons has Churubusco wanting this one bad. The Eagles shined in Week 1 while Lakeland struggled. The Lakers are better than what they showed last Friday. This one will be close. BLITZ SAYS LAKELAND BY 4.
FAIRFIELD AT JOHN GLENN. Glenn rushed for close to 300 yards last week in a shutout win over Boone Grove. BLITZ SAYS GLENN BY 3.
FREMONT AT BLACKFORD. Blackhawk Christian couldn’t contain the Fremont offense much last week. Blackford won’t be able to either. BLITZ SAYS FREMONT BY 26.
PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT BRONSON (MI). A road trip up north should result in a win for the Panthers. BLITZ SAYS PRAIRIE HEIGHTS BY 8.
WAWASEE AT WEST NOBLE. The Chargers have won four-straight games over Wawasee. BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 15.
WARRREN CENTRAL AT WARSAW. Even without Top 50 player Quinton Brock, the Tigers were able to drop 38 points on Snider and beat the Panthers last week. Warren Central, per usual, is no joke. But more and more people are finding out that the Tigers aren’t either. BLITZ SAYS WARREN CENTRAL BY 5.
