Picks from the Pond: Boys Regional edition

As quick as Sectionals came, they are done. Between buzzer beaters and blowouts it was a week to remember for sure. 16 teams remain in each class and it is starting to get real for some teams. 16 teams from each class earned the right to play another day and give themselves a chance to engrave their names in Hoosier Hysteria history.

SB. WASHINGTON REGIONAL

SB Riley vs Warsaw

What a ride for the Warsaw Tigers forcing OT with Northridge at the buzzer and ultimately winning 78-74. The Tigers will once again have a HUGE test on their hands as they go head to head with the Wildcats on Saturday evening. This is a game that will take all 32 minutes and maybe some more… Can the Tigers do it again? BOUNCE PICKS: WARSAW

LOGANSPORT REGIONAL

Homestead vs Carroll

Sparty won a wild one over SAC Champion Wayne on Saturday to claim the Sectional 5 Title 56-52. Meanwhile, Carroll defeated below .500 Northrop by 20 to get the Sectional 6 crown. While the Chargers had the toughest draw of Sectional 6; Homestead played in a much better one. And won it. The Spartans beat the Chargers at Charger Fieldhouse in the regular season 51-37 and got Carroll’s best shot. This game will come down to if Carroll can get stops or not and keep themselves in it for the first half and the first four of the third.  BOUNCE PICKS: HOMESTEAD

NEW CASTLE REGIONAL

Delta vs Blackhawk Christian

Blackhawk Christian ROLLED through a tough Sectional 21, winning all 3 games by 21 points or more at Garrett. With Cathedral out of the tournament, the odds are pointing towards the Braves to hang another State Title banner. In order to do that, they have to go through Delta. In their 2 games, the Eagles won both by double Digits to crown themselves Sectional 24 Champs at New Castle. Delta will be back at New Castle for the second straight weekend but this time will face a much tougher challenge… slowing down the Braves. BOUNCE PICKS: BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN

SB WASHINGTON REGIONAL

SB. St. Joseph vs Columbia City

What a sectional for the Columbia City Eagles. First, upsetting a team favored to go far in NorthWood. Secondly, handling business against Fairfield. And in the title game upsetting Tippy Valley by forcing OT at the buzzer and then winning at the buzzer on a BLOB play in said OT. There was definitely some magic in the air for CC at NorthWood this past weekend but they will go up against one of the best teams in 3A in their own backyard. Is there more magic left in the air for the Eagles to soar to another upset? BOUNCE PICKS: SB. ST. JOE

TRITON REGIONAL

Jimtown vs Westview

Westview got through the NECC Sectional, despite getting Central Noble’s best shot. The Cougars hung in there all game but the Warriors were just simply too much. Westview crowned themselves NECC Tournament Champs, NECC Regular Season Champs. Sectional Champs, and will look to add a Regional Championship to their belt. In order to do that, they will need to beat a solid Jimtown team who had success to close out the regular season and won a Sectional Title. BOUNCE PICKS: WESTVIEW

NORTH JUDSON REGIONAL

Bishop Luers vs Gary 21st Century

These two teams are so similar that only 2 games separate them. Bishop Luers enters 21-6 while Gary 21st Century is 19-6. The Knights cruised their way to a Sectional Title and all year have had an explosive offense. The Cougars are also explosive on offense as they put up almost 90 points in 2 of their 3 sectional games. This one is going to be a shootout at North Judson. BOUNCE PICKS: GARY 21ST CENTURY

TRITON REGIONAL

Triton vs Lakewood Park Christian

LPCS won their sectional title by 1 on a pair of free throws to take a losing season and make it a positive, winning only their second sectional title in school history. However, just like their first regional appearance they will have a tough test at hand Saturday. Triton has had 1A success for years and is looking to continue that success. BOUNCE PICKS: TRITON
