This is an off and on week with the holidays here. We won’t see a major slate of games, but still some fun matchups throughout the week.
Lets get into it.
LAST WEEK: 12-6 (8-0 Girls, 4-6 boys)
THIS SEASON: 64-31
BOYS GAMES
Adams Central at Norwell, Friday
This isn’t a game with a lot of rivalry too it but still should be solid with the way Adams Central started their season and with Norwell really thriving lately. The Flying Jets have an inside edge in size and experience but Norwell’s trifecta of McBrides has proven to be very good. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL
Fremont at LaPorte, Friday
Fremont did a good job this season trying to make their nonconference schedule better. Case in point: a trip to LaPorte that will be anything but easy. Scrappy Fremont put a big scare into Angola last week and that kind of aggression will serve them well Friday in at least using this game as a step to keep improving. BOUNCE PICKS LAPORTE
Penn at Homestead, Friday
Part of the BSN Holiday Tournament that has Homestead playing three games between Friday and Saturday. Homestead’s run in the first half of last week’s battle with Bishop Luers showed the firepower and depth they have that will eventually lead to a signature win. Is this one that game? BOUNCE PICKS HOMESTEAD
South Bend St. Joe vs. Carroll, Friday at Homestead
Part of the BSN Holiday Tournament that has Carroll playing three games between Friday and Saturday. We have already talked alot about teams who are playing well right now and count Carroll among those teams. They are clicking well, but (and a big one), this is the top team in Class 3A for a reason on the other side of the court. BOUNCE PICKS SOUTH BEND ST. JOE
Bluffton at Norwell, Saturday
Word is that Bluffton football coach Brent Kunkel will be on the call for this one for the Berne Witness. A fun game between county opponents here. Bluffton has had to deal with some injuries, but Kaleb Green has been tough inside as a shot blocker and finisher while Declan Grieser has had a high level scoring output. BOUNCE PICKS BLUFFTON
Woodlan at Wayne, Saturday
The Warriors haven’t had the start they have wanted but they have been contending and growing. That will help them feel better about this one, but Wayne is still Wayne and on the inside, Trey Dillard could prove to be a difficult puzzle to solve. BOUNCE PICKS WAYNE
Garrett at East Noble, Saturday
The opening game of the Max Platt Tournament hosted annually by East Noble. The winner of this one likely gets the unfortunate draw of Anderson in the finals. But before we get there, these two teams square off in the morning going two different ways. East Noble has one win, Garrett has one loss. The Knights have dealt with the big injury bug in the process and its yet to be seen how healthy they are after the holiday. BOUNCE PICKS GARRETT
New Haven at Kokomo, Saturday
Former New Haven standout Korbyn Hammel will be a fun one to watch for Kokomo in this one. The Wildkats aren’t as dominant as they once were but still very good and a great challenge for a young New Haven team. BOUNCE PICKS KOKOMO
Blackhawk Christian vs. Silver Creek, Saturday at Lawrenceburg
The second of two games on the day for the Braves, who also play Beech Grove four hours earlier. Blackhawk Christian has long thrived in these out of area post Christmas tournaments, don’t expect that to change. BOUNCE PICKS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN
Warsaw vs. Fishers, Saturday at New Castle
Part of the Hall of Fame Classic, which is annually a tremendous event. Warsaw has proven exceptional and deep so far this season. Their inclusion in the Hall of Fame Classic is tremendous and I expect the Tigers to have a good day both in this game and in the consolation. And thats no knock on Warsaw, I think they give Fishers a scare, but Fishers is in fact the best team in the state, period. If Warsaw can knock them off, then the Tigers are the best team in the state because they are real close right now. BOUNCE PICKS WARSAW
GIRLS GAMES
Columbia City vs. Crown Point, Friday at Twin Lakes
Out of area events are always fun around the holidays. We could get deep here or we can just say that I don’t see anyone beating Columbia City as they currently are. BOUNCE PICKS COLUMBIA CITY
Homestead vs. Lawrence Central, Friday at New Castle
Back to the Hall of Fame Classic and an event that was seemingly built for the Spartans. Myah Epps is creeping up on 1,000 career points and she should get it this weekend. Does she get it in this game? If so, my prediction will absolutely be spot on. BOUNCE PIKCS HOMESTEAD
Northrop at Pike, Saturday
A great challenge for the Bruins, who have put some early defeats in the rear view mirror. The most important part for Northrop right now is that their offensive output is solidly balanced and it is what is leading them while their defense works hard too. BOUNCE PICKS PIKE
Norwell at Noblesville, Saturday
Noblesville is coming off a really nice win over Westfield that should move the needle in terms of their momentum. This is going to be a scrappy and potentially high scoring game. BOUNCE PICKS NOBLESVILLE
Snider vs. Valparaiso, Saturday at Noblesville
Snider in the house too in Noblesville and this young group isn’t getting enough attention for their start considering how much they lost to graduation last Spring. Valpo are winners of 6 of their last 7 with a tremendous run. BOUNCE PICKS SNIDER
Eastern at Southern Wells, Saturday
Eastern (Greentown) sits at 0-12. So why is this a game to pick. Because it is the first real good chance Bounce has had to talk about Southern Wells. The Raiders are 10-3 on the season and in their losses have hung with decent Northfield and Woodlan teams. Kudos to current girls coach and former SW boys coach Kyle Penrod for his start with this group, who have not won 10 games as a program in seven seasons. Win 11? BOUNCE PICKS SOUTHERN WELLS
